Maxidot changes

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I’m new here, and not overly technical.

just bought a 2011 2.0tdi 4x4 Superb Estate Elegance, which I love and I’m still trying to work my way through the gadgetry (far more than there was on my B6 Passat)

I was wondering whether there is a way of setting the centre readout of the maxidot system to read in Mph rather than Kph?
thanks in advance👍🏻

No, it’s kph as you don’t have it on your normal Mph gauge

Unless it can be done by Vcd

With VCDS you can change the country setting to Australia and that gives you the option to have a large digital speed readout in centre of maxidot e.g.

Very useful for checking and setting speed in average speed camera sections of motorways

Cheers for your response DrCorbyLee - please forgive my ignorance but what is VCDS and how would I get access to it please?

VCDS is a software and hardware solution for interecting with a VW group car's control systems - https://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/ .  Can be used to diagnose faults etc like the tools dealers have but also allows you to make adaptations, changing car's functionality to add / change things that are not normally accessible to the owner but are sat there embedded in control system ready to be switched on or off or values adjusted.   Not a cheap tool to buy (the cheapest version is still over 200 quid) so easiest option if you wanted to make the change to give the digital speedo is to find a local Briskoda member with VCDS on map here https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?msa=0&mid=1Td73_uUUqscV3nRm5br_o89PmBU&ll=21.25990146299172%2C83.39240985000002&z=3 :

and they will usually do the necessary mods in exchange for a couple of beer tokens.

Another adaptation I've found useful in conjuction with the digital speedo is adding cruise control set speed and status display to maxidot, can then see at a glance exactly what speed the cruise control is trying to maintain and is ideal to allow you to dial in set speed to nearest mph when in motorway average speed check areas.

Cheers Buddy, is that an option on the VCDS  menu too? I may know someone local to me who has this VCDS, I know him from another forum I was in when I had my B6 Passat estate. Hopefully he can sort these mods out for me

Yep, can be set with VCDS.  If I get chance will sort out details from when mods were done on my car back in 2014, make it a really quick job for the local chappy

No worries, plenty of others on forum have helped me so happy to return the favour.

Below are links that hopefully help your VCDS chap to do the necessary:

Display large mph in MaxiDOThttp://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/217951-maxi-dot-speed-indicator/

Enable Cruise control setpoint display in MaxiDOT  https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?sl=de&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stemei.de%2Fpages%2Fcoding%2Fskoda-superb-3t%2Fgra-geschwindigkeit-anzeigen.php&edit-text=&act=url

The latter is unfortunately a German website but link should take you to google translate english version, the main thing is that it shows exact what controller and parameter needs adjusting which is all your chap needs

Good evening.

Many thanks to those of you who offered guidance and advice, and in particular DrCorbyLee - I am pleased to report that we were able to change the MFD to include the digital speedo in MPH by switching the region to AUS

I REALLY appreciate everyone’s input you made it possible cheers

I tried this today on my 2013 Superb, VCDS says that coding has successfully changed but it keeps going back to GB and I can't get this speedo function. 😕

I am by no means in a position to offer any proper advice, other than to say the code which the fella who did mine with his VCDS changed very slightly with AUS at the end instead of GB, then we took the key out, left it a few minutes, put the ignition back on to the stage before start up, scrolled through the MFD and the option was there to be ticked. We also had to change the l/km to mpg to make it work.

I get this message so may be the cause of my problem, 'Unable to find a .ROD file for: EV_KombiU_DS_VDD_RM09 A04114 (VW36 *)

Hi all, I've followed the German guide and adapted the code accordingly but I'm not seeing the mph for the cruise in the bottom corner of the maxi dot display. I've followed it to a T, the only difference is I only see the option for'cruise control display', which I've now set to active on vcds. It accepted the change for info.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. I wonder if it's a translation issue or a use issue! 😅

Unfortunately the mod was carried out on my car by a polish chap I found off eBay who also happened to speak German.  I know sometimes these mods don't take until you essentially reboot the controller but no idea how you do that in VCDS. One other thought, have you tried disabling and then enabling CC from the 3-position switch on top of the stalk for CC?  Reverts to displaying mileage total when CC is off.  Failing that, maybe it's a controller version issue.  Mine's an MY14 facelift car. Article mentions software (I assume the controller) version 0406

I've walked away from it for the evening. A night for it to stand may result in it sorting itself out. I believe there is an option for a soft restart/reset of the system in vcds so may try that tomorrow.

I managed to get the large mph on the maxidot though.

I tried turning the cc off and on as you suggested as well as disabling the function on vcds, turning the cc off and reenabling, with no apparent joy.

It would appear its the right software version although I will check again tomorrow to confirm! Thank you, I'm surprised anyone is on here this late!!

There are two parts to this problem... Both the instrument cluster and engine ECU need to support it.

Unfortunately, most Skoda engines don't. If you've changed the adaption channel and it's not showing, this is likely why 😞

Some people have managed to modify the engine ECU firmware but there is very little info and quite risky:
