Battery problems with key fob

Featured Replies

Key fobs for the car stopped working and when new CR2025 button cells from a well known proprietary label were fitted they still did not work. Skoda dealer said they have had this problem before and said a skoda supplied battery would work, which they did but cost me £14.20 for the two batteries. Tried the fobs with none Skoda batteries again and, surprise  -  they still did not work but worked ok with the skoda batteries reinserted. Have asked Skoda for an expanation but still waiting for one.

Has anyone else had this problem

Measure the voltage of both batteries, to compare.

Have checked Skoda batteries and none Skoda ones, all 3v full charge.

So nothing wrong with the none Skoda ones.

A new CR2025 should be higher than 3.0V, perhaps at least 3.3V.

Did not hold for 5 seconds so thanks for the information, now all batteries working. I would have thought the dealeship would have told me that when I put one of the batteries in to show it was not working, instead they took the fobs away and came back with the skoda batteries fitted and a £15 bill.

When my battery went, I replaced it with an Energiser one that I'd had unused for a few years. I didn't knowingly press any button for 5s but it worked fine. Strange?

Advice on here seems to be:

1. Always use a 2032, whether originally fitted with one.

2. Try to use Panasonics (also recommended on forums for other manufacturers)

3. Keep a spare in you car or wallet ar preferably both.

The robbing dogs. I have always used the slightly fatter 2032 batterys that i,ve got from poundland and they have always worked just fine.

I replaced the keyfobs' batteries twice (i.e. 4 batteries) before learning on this forum about the 5 s button-press step.

Had no problem either.

The key and battery seem to be a moody pair...  :)

My main key has suffered two battery failures, but neither time did I have to undertake a re-setting procedure.

+1

My experience also but I did find that to clear the error message on the screen  that locking and unlocking the car doors did the trick.

Just replaced battery in spare key. No reset and worked fine after.
