Software Update yet to be released. 1.0 MPI

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is my first time posting. My 2020 Fabia, shows EML amber light and cooling fan runs from time engine is on until turned off. My local Skoda Johnson’s garage have informed me that my car needs a software update which is yet to be released. They told me this is very common but I don’t know what to believe if I’m honest. At present they have turned light off and fan is running as normal however after a week or so fan is running constantly with light showing. I am looking for advise or if anyone has experienced anything similar.

Thank you.

Welcome.

Is the car still within Manufacturers Warranty?

Sound like BS, but we might find out.  Plenty about here with a Mk3 Fabia.

So,

What engine & gearbox does your car have?

@varooommight come along and maybe can help if you give a VIN.

It’s a 1 litre, manual - colour Edition.

It's possible to find the version by VIN, but I don't have access to that system (I've seen it)

A VCDS scan of the car might reveal what's fitted currently loaded and I could look to see if the file has been released.

@Emilyj97Give it a little time and hopefully there will be some MPI owners or past owners along.

The cars came out in 2014 and it is odd that there seems to be little on Social Media / Forums on the issue, and what this Software Update might be.

Best ask the people that do Skoda UK's Customer Services to get you info from the Technical Department that seemingly exists somewhere.

The garage gave me Customer Services telephone number I gave them a call and said this was on going issue and 85% of Fabia’s in the UK are experiencing this yet I can’t find any information on it. My car runs smoothly except for those two issues, also the stop start disables.

I am sure that Autocar, / What Car, Auto Express and others will be interested to hear that about the Fabias.

There are now Mk4 Fabias out and they are looking to resolve Mk3 issues.

Plenty new cars have issues with SOS, and over the air updates.

Maybe 85% of all Skoda being first registered in the UK.    Now VW Group will love that as a news story.

I hope you have that persons name.

Here is example of what can be seen if you have a diagnostic scan done.

(I am still at a loss that they have not aparantly found a fix, smells like something that comes out rear end of a bull)

@Emilyj97

If all you have is it by spoken word from whoever maybe try again and get it from them in writing.

Someone somewhere can put their name to their statement.

@toot I asked for something in writing that I would still be covered when my warranty runs out if the problem was nothing to do with ‘Software update’ as I explained I wasn’t going to pay when I’ve taken my car twice now and luckily they did email me.

You raised it within the Warranty period.  They have accepted there is an issue and they can not resolve it and putting the issue with Skoda CZ / VW Group.

Now this rubbish from Customer Services.

Now they have to own it. It is their problem to resolve even after 3 years passes.

85% of Fabias with the issue.   What total idiots they have doing the Customer Service roll.

Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything.

If your cooling fan is on all the time that could contribute to the charge in your car's battery depleting which also might trigger your start/stop to disable, you would normally get a warning about this but often these warnings can come too late and just because the car starts and the lights seem bright enough it can be that the battery is in a low state of charge which can trigger other warnings and possible issues.

I would ask the Skoda dealer to test the battery and give me the printout or record of the result, batteries aren't cheap for these cars.

Personally I would buy an appropriate battery charger and maintainer (my recent purchase cost £23.49 and Lidl had some at £15) as battery/charging problems are the number one cause of breakdown callouts - not trying to scare you just inform you and you will find that on the net, try The AA website.

I was speaking with a chap yesterday waiting for a recovery truck for his big 2009 Jaguar, he knew he had battery issues (not the battery really) but still put all the glass heaters on, blower and both front seat heaters at 5 am before leaving his place of work when it was -2c, some people just don't help themselves.  His battery gave up the punishment on a busy road before 9 am, breakdown van can told his the alternator (which helps the battery) was dead and he need a loader (and he had the big long Jaguar, XJ) hopefully it arrived with him at the promised 1 pm.

Now toot you're being a bit unfair, perhaps they meant it's 85% of 1 litre, MPI, manual, 2020, colour Edition Fabias in the UK area of Stourbridge served by  Johnson’s garage. 😄

Car manufacturers don't exactly shout about all the problems they have with their products and perhaps some even go out of their way to hide some of the issues, how else can they maintain the belief in German engineering quality.   😉

That is correct, they trot out the same Bravo Sugar to any customer with a problem they cannot be ar5ed to resolve.

How can they know that something that does not yet exist will cure a problem that they are unable to find the cause of?

@J.R. thanks for that, I thought the same too. I was going to try another garage and see if they give me the same story.

Might be just as well to locate nearest forum member with VCDS, might be needed Hex V2 version mind you, and get a full car scan.

Otherwise consider buying one yourself if you plan on keep the car, or staying in the VAG stable for a few years.

The final option is ring around local garages and ask if they have VCDS or ODIS as you just want a printout of everything in your car.

Then you will be able to feed back here what version is installed and I can lookup, or the garage should be able also.

hello, I tried to look for the software number as you indicate that it should be searched for but I only found the following to see if it works, will it have an update?  Is there any way to install smartlink or only by the dealer?

@gruger I don’t know how to view that in my car. Can you give me a step by step guide ?

Your tag of his name didn't work.

But I can answer this, just press and hold on your radio the Menu or Setup button (depending on what you have) for about 10 seconds, and this will only show you the firmware that is inside the radio.

So your engine and all the other control modules will not be in the list, for that you still need VCDS or equivalent.

This is the software that my car is currently running on. Can someone confirm if this is the latest for the 2020 model.
