I know they(GTI-6&Rallye) won't exactly set your pants on fire in a straight line but on the twisties is where its at, along with the steering feedback.

Peugeot 306 GTI-6 & 306 Rallye before i got the Fab. I can't get close to the speed i used to carry through the corners but for fun factor/refinement/practicality & economy the Fabia is excellent.

Chowy - I envy you for owning an M3.

If i had

Was looking at one of these as a fun weekend car for me and a practical 2nd car that SWMBO can potter about in. Can't believe how cheap they are now either :D

hi everyone

I seriously downsized to get my vrs furby i dont know if this is the biggest down size

before getting my furby I had a landrover freelander talk about weird from a high view point

to low level took abit of getting use to but never regretted it

Chowy that M3 is gorgeous

I love BMW's tbh :D

Your old M3 is stunning Chowy

My Fabia was a nice upgrade so this post is pretty useless :o

Im another ex WRX Scooby owner, bought it from new in 2002. Lovely to look at and a real head turner. Can't beat the sound of those engines too.

I found it had pi$$ poor mid range torque, was as difficult to insure as I had some dealer itted extra's which were classed as mods and attracted the attention of coppers who assumed you were guilty instantly.

Would I have another?? I don't think so, there are some much better value for money and fun to drive cars around these days.

Mine is a "down size" from a TT 225. Before that there were many more overtly sporty cars - Renault 5 GT Turbo (less reliable than even a Clio 172), Audi Coupe Quattro (written off by a muppet in a Nissan Sunny!), Corrado VR6 (nearly as unreliable as a Renault) and various other stock and modified Audis.

After all that what I want is flexible engine - it's right to say a Scooby in 3rd is bl***y quick but that's when it's in 3rd. If you add in the time taken to react to the gap, change down one or two cogs and then nail it, the times are much closer. Driving these days is often a procession with unexpected opportunities and for that I'd take point and squirt in whatever gear over screaming revs anyday. But the best bit is that it's unexpected - a TT or a Scooby gets no respect unless it goes by - a Skoda is simply not supposed to do this. I had a remapped Audi A2 Tdi for a while (great car) which did the same thing - if people don't think they need 3rd to waste you it's great to see their face in the mirror when you force them to change down...:D

Also, I like cheaper running costs! With the miles I do, should be

Mine is a downsize from a 250bhp Furby :D

The fastest car I ever had was a '86 Camaro with a 5.7 litre V8 and nitrous.

Amazing launches at traffic lights.

Had to keep a barrel of Avgas outside my house to keep the octane rating high enough for the compression ratio I had!

Learnt a lot of mechanics on her. (Boy that was a long time ago....)

I'm enjoying the fabia vRS just as much now! I kid you not.:D

somewhat better fuel economy too:rofl:

Cheers

Bas

Actually the Scooby is bl**dy quick in all gears, but you need to be in the power band, just as you do for the Furby. TBH the Scooby doesn't start to "pick up" in 5th until about 100mph, which isn't ideal for lazy driving.

Plus the power band in the Scooby lasts a fair bit longer than the vRS. It's just the vRS is geared for motorway speeds, and the power is immediately available from say 70mph in 6th gear.

As for overtaking, both cars are good for it, though where you perhaps gain time having the power low down in the vRS, it quickly runs out of puff, and you need to change up if you want to get past more than say one vehicle. The Scooby doesn't, if you're ready in the right gear - 3rd will pull from 50 almost to 100.

But don't get me wrong - I love both cars. :)

The only comparative test I've seen recently which made you think, was the Golf GTi (last shape) which was slower to 60 than a 1.4 auto Rover 25! :D

I think i seen the same article and if you look on the other page and compare times 0-60

the Austin Allegro 1750 Equipe was a split second faster than the Golf GTI Mk IV

hehehe :D

Yes,

I too own a "classic" Impreza--modded slightly to about 265bhp--owned from new in '99.

We bought the vRS to replace my wife's Yaris T-Sport in 2004 and I'm so impressed with the Furby that I am planning to keep the Furby and sell-off the Impreza.

I agree with other comments about the 2 car's differing engine characteristics and also agree that on a day to day basis, "normal" type driving, the Furby is a more relaxed and flexible drive, not to mention quieter, better equipped and more economical and less likely to attract the wrong sort of attention.

Just recently re-mappped the vRS and now only need to get the Eibach springs and perhaps a rear ARB fitted to complete the package----noted that some owners have also gone for uprated front discs/pads but as some on this forum have also found, my own particular car's brakes are very good, compared to others.

We may then become a complete Skoda family as my wife is quite keen on the new Roomster--due out Sept. but will probably await a full road test before making any decision.

I downsized from 3.2 vectra. saving loads of money now - fuel - insurance - tax. However miss the V6 engine like mad!

Just sold an S2000 to get into the Fabia vRS, although not really a true 'downgrade' for me due to many reasons which I shan't bore you with...

They are however almost 'opposites':

S2000 v VRS

RWD v FWD

240hp v 130hp

150lbft v 230lbft

2 seats v 4 seats

group 20 v group 9 insurance

etc

etc

etc

The only thing they have in common is 16" alloys and leather now that I think about it!

Mine is a downsize from a 250bhp Furby :D

250 bhp Furby

How many mods!?

I'm another convert from the Scooby fraternity.

Gone to the Furby for various reasons, a few of them being change of marital "situation", insurance costs, fuel economy, servicing, etc, etc, etc.

Contrarian view: I upgraded to the Fabia.

I got the Fabia to replace my AXGT that got bashed. After looking at Peugeot 205s etc. I decided I didn't want another "French bean tin". What I did want was something that would be "fun" at relatively sensible speeds.

The AXGT was my lugging cr*p car. The Furby was bought fulfill that role with a bit more style and reliability (albeit with worries about getting much on the upholstery).

J.

Always bought renault in the past had a 16v clio then a 5 turbo had a 172 cup before buying a new furby, not in the least disapointed with the furby as im clocking 50mls a day to work. not paying a kick in the butt of 200bucks for road tax is a bonus as well and dropping 100 bucks insurance .was going to buy a megane sport 225 glad i didn't

Also downsized from a 3.2 Gsi Vectra.

Don't miss it one bit!

I couldn't list all the cars i have owned without boring the pants off everybody but my last 3 where Mk2 Astra GTE 16v then a 206GTI and the last one was a Clio 172 which i hated so much that i sold it after 8 months, ride quality was s*it as was the Reg Vardy dealer and obviously the image, but the Fabia is sooooo sensible with the fuel economy, soft suspension and resale value yet it can be great fun even for an oldie (42) like myself! Even the rattleing on start up from the engine in the morning is no longer embarassing as most of my neighbours have recently bought diesel cars.

i downsized from a chevy corvette to the fabia vrs 2 years ago (now have an octy vrs)

5.7 V8 to 1.9PDI ...

surprisingly the torque of PDI gave a similar feel to the corvette however i still miss the v8 sound and pimp-lookin style..

mpg increased from around 9 to 53 though :D

Downgraded for insurance reasons in 2002 from an Impreza Turbo to a Freelander V6 Auto - a surprising good and quick car with excellent performance but dreadful economy - and then again in 2004 to a Fabia vRS after not wanting the petrol bills and collecting 6 points, ironically neither in the Freelander but rather bike + 206...

It seemed the only sensible car to buy with decent performance and low insurance...

Downgraded from a Fiat Coupé 20vt and Jaguar XJR, I missed the coupe's urgent performance until I got a remap and now the Fabia feels much more fun than before (but still not as quick as a coupe but just as enjoyable to drive). I'll always miss the XJR but that's not for the performance values..... it was just a great car to be in.

No regrets about buying a Fabia vRS whatsoever!
