Driver side led headlight bracket mounting is snapped

Featured Replies

Hello helpful people. I bought recently Skoda Superb MK3 FL 2019 with led headlights and recently noticed that one of the mounting bracket is snapped. I have contacted dealer about it but they are washing their hands off and don’t want to fix it or hear anything about it because I should check the car before collecting. They are basically saying I have done it. I drove the car for about 300 miles and never hit anything. I Never checked the engine bay to be honest because the headlight is working and doesn’t seems to have even scratch on. Car has 12k on the clock. I bought the car for cash and it was long time saving. I paid £22k for the car not even 2 weeks ago just to be told that I need new headlight because the bracket is part of the unit. It could cost me up to £1k to fix that. Is there another way how to deal with it please.
Thank you for any help in advance

Well I have found some used damaged headlight on eBay and looking at the pictures of the headlight it seems like one part. I can’t see any screws for the bracket on the light

Correct, the original brackets are part of the moulding.

However, if they snap then you can chop the broken bracket off and use a repair kit. For the eBay headlight you posted, the screw holds would be on the other side looking at the repair kit:

Has the front bumper been painted at all?
that’s a common issue when the front end has taken a bump.

I can’t see that. There is light scratch on side of the bummer. So the bracket was broken already when dealer took the car in and they have missed it on inspection or something happened between the dealership or on the way back from service. I have seen video from service by the dealer and you can’t really say if there was any damage because the way how they done the video. Since the service the car done only 9 miles till I picked up. My garage guy looked at it yesterday and he said it definitely had light impact but he couldn’t say if the wing was changed coz it doesn’t look like.
I’m not happy to say the least. My stupidity to trust Stoneacre in first place.

I will definitely look in to the bracket repair kit tho. I just hope the additional bracket are in one piece coz I have long drive front of me before I will be able to take off the bumper and look at it properly. Btw does anyone know how difficult is to take off the bumper please.

Thank you all.

Sorry, there is one hairy scratch on side of the wing and the lower bit of the front bumper seems to take some hit too. There is deep scratch on the bottom of the bumper which I can’t see on pictures from dealer.

Also the plastic trim is not clicked in properly on the bottom so someone hit something. The brackets are made of chocolate then!

Could you plastic weld it?  Look on Youtube for plastic welding and there are a few videos of how to do it.

That is another option. I will definitely look in to it too. Thank you.

Saying so, I’m leaning towards the genuine part what Langers2k showed me.
I’m able to speak czech language and found few headlights with same issue in Czech Republic and people fixed those with the genuine parts and it seems to be working

They are actually very strong but the bumper is remarkable for the amount of impact it can absorb and return to its original shape with very little sign of damage.

My car has the original bumper unrepaired and only showing a few light scratches yet the impact bent the crash bar, set off the airbags (writing the vehicle off) and of course broke most of the headlamp tabs.

I plastic welded mine before buying new LHD units for use in France, its not a string repair however there are stitching kits available from China that use an instant heat soldering gun which take staples that glow red hot that you create stitches with across the repair area before adding reinforcement of either glue or plastic welding.

Those replacement tabs look like a good idea and would have saved me a lot of time.

@JR RS can easily answer this question, though his Mk3 is a pre-FL one. ;)

Would b happy to answer, but as u say, mine is the pre-facelift Superb.

Nonetheless, I'd imagine most of it would b the similar.  The key difference with the bumper being the foglights and the surrounding grille.

I've attached the how-to guide.  It might help.

Unfortunately the bumper off requires front jacked up and front wheels off.

JR RS, this is really great guidance pal thank you.
May I ask you  if you remember what tools you used, how long it took to do it and if you broke anything else just in case i would need new rivets etc pal?  I don’t have space to do it where I’m at the moment but I will do it in end of July in my second home so I want to be ready for it. I don’t trust garages much (bad experiences) so I prefer to do it myself. Doesn’t look so difficult with your detailed guide. Saying so it’s more to do than I thought 😂🙈.

I will post back when I’m on it 😂 I hope I won’t break anything 🤞

Tools r minimal - u just need a torx screw, and it's the same size for the wheel arch liner, bumper and under tray screws.

The headlights use torx screws as well, but r slightly bigger.

U won't break anything if done properly.

I've removed my bumper about 3-4 times now, and haven't snapped or broken anything.

The tricky part is making sure not to hit or bump the ACC radar sensor whilst removing or putting the bumper back.

It looks like this......

Turns out it was more times than i realized!!

I've removed it so many times cause I'm a nutcase, but reasons were...

- to retrofit Smart Light Assist headlights

- to fit Rieger front splitter

- to remove lower grille centre chrome bit to plasti-dip it black

- to change the upper grille surround from chrome to black

- to open up the blocked air flow duct behind the grille

...so yeah, plenty of practice :)

Did you buy the car online or were you physically there at time you purchased it?

I bought it online, paid for it cash, but then I went to collect.. so all my fault I guess.. saying so I wouldn’t notice the broken part even if i would be looking at the engine bay when collecting the car. It’s newish car with few k on it. Never would I think that something like that is possible without visible damage to the car from outside. Also paying those money, buying from dealer.. I thought everything is spot on and if not they would take the car back.. how wrong I was..it’s definitely eye opening for me

Sorry you had issues early on in your ownership!  I would go for a repair bracket a known and approved replacement for broken lugs on headlights. As @langers2K said part number 3VO 998 225 should fit and make a permanent repair that will go unseen to most people.  Just take you time measuring and cutting the damaged part off!
