New Octavia tips and tricks

Is there no way of getting the actual mph value to be displayed permanently on the driver display where mpgs and average mph is displayed?

Could it be enabled by VAGcom?

Don't think it's possible as speedo has to display both mph and kmh at the same time one way or another, so if the dials are in mph the digital readout will always be in kmh.

Just a quick one for those of you who plan to keep their cars for a while, I have found that if you use the drivers electric window switch a lot, the black edge of the switch will wear away revealing a white edge. This does look rather unsightly, so to prevent this I use ordinary sellotape, cut to size, to go over the edge bit. This will stop the black paint wearing away.

Until you take the sellotape off and it rips the paint off in one go. :S

i only found that out today on my mk1 octavia vrs...its for when you park your car up and its sticking out onto a road somewhere or parked close to a road or parked in an estate...just so people can see it...and beleive me it does work...

When it is parked on one side ,only inner side light indication is required for visibility to other vehicles and its saving energy by keeping other side lights off.

hello

how can I get the doors to lock as soon as the car starts driving? I have the button but I wish they locked automatically upon start....

any tips greatly appreciated

Either ask your dealer or a friendly local briskoda member with VAG.COM software to enable Anti Hijack for you.

There's a list of members and locations in the VCDS area of the forum.

here are all the climate contol settings. Now these have been translated by someone else from Spanish. The translation is not brilliant and where I have been able to, I have made it easier to understand (so most of it has been left alone)

To enter the climate settings, press ECON and the top right button in the middle cluster of 4 buttons.

To change the main channel (large number on passenger side LCD), use the passenger side temp dial. To change the sub channel (the small number to the top right of the main number), use the fan speed dial.

To exit press AUTO and ECO simultaniously.

Hi,

I guess these do not work with a face-lifted 10' plate Octavia with new style climate - there's no ECON button on mine so I guess they don't work?

Are there any tips / tricks for that model?

Cheers

Lee

I found a fine point black permanent marker pen (as used for writing on CDs) very handy for attending to such damage, as stuff like that irritates me more than it should. That reminds, me, there is also a spec of white showing on one of the air option buttons that also just needs a dab.

I must experiment more with options for opening and closing windows via locking operations. It used to work on my 52 plate Octavia, but I've not figured a way to do it on my 56 plate L&K.

I did discover that the car was rain sensing while parked, and that it closed the sunroof, but I turned that option off, as I sometimes leave my car parked for several weeks, and lots of cars with smart functions can flatten the battery in a couple of weeks. I prefer a quick getaway from the airport when I get back to my car. It would be good if there was a hibernate option.

Just got my new 12 plate on Saturday (without MaxiDot) - the doors locked automatically as I drove away from the showroom, and for most of the day. But they don't any more!

Presumably my fiddling with various buttons (without reading the manual of course!) has changed the setting...

Anyone know haw to change it back?

Thanks

Hello all,

Does anyone know what are the second lights in the fog lights for?

I was told by the dealer that they are actually turning lights, for when turning into your driveway at night , only the one light comes on depending on which direction you are turning in, but they only work if you have the swivelling xenon light option on your car.

On my '12plate Elegance they are Daytime Running Lights - something I wan't expecting to get as before I bought the car, like you Silvergamer, I thought they were turning lights.

They come on when the ignition is on, and go off when I turn on the side- or head- lights.

Thanks a lot.

I managed to set mine through the maxidot, automatic locking I'm sure it was. Hopefully that helps saves giving the dealership cash :)

I think the reason is that you only need to light the side of the car which is sticking out into the road. So dpending which side you have the car parked on, or which country you are in, you select which side you want to illuminate.

If a skip or a piece of plant equipment is on the highway, they only put lanterns on the side stuck in the road. (mostly)

Cheers

Rick

I used to own a 1979 vw derby ( a polo with a boot) a long long time ago. You could do the one side sidelights with the indicator stalk even back then.
