Mobile phones - Is this the end??

Featured Replies

My contract is up for renewal, and as per every other year, i phone O2, threaten to cancel, and they offer me a good deal and an upgrade for

They do.

They are the dirt cheap low end Nokias that nobody wants

Not convinced on reliable with these (or indeed even the more expensive ones). Always seem to need "rebooting" quite frequently (otherwise they just don't take incoming calls, but don't alert you to this fact), and usually start falling apart after about 8 months...

Rob.

I know what you mean I have a SE K750i and was debating the same logical SE upgrade is to the K790i with 3.2MP Camera Xenon Flash etc but not available until Q3/4 this year.

So I opted for an MDA Vario/O2 XDA Mini/iMate Jam or whatever someone else calls it and to date well impressed. Managed to replace my Phone, Pocket PC, MP3 Player and Sat Nav all in one unit, well with an external Bluetooth GPS Receiver. Has a built in proper QWERTY Keyboard and got it on the T-Mobile Web & Walk Pro giving me 2GB PEr Month & Modem Data Access for the Laptop whilst Travelling.

I just picked myself up a Nokia 8850 from Ebay for exactly the same reason, I'm not a technophobe- I just can't stand having a load of features I'll never use and that only slow the phone down. The only recentish phone that appealed was a Nokia 6230i.

I thought I'd go for some retro style!

I just sold my Motorola V3i on Ebay.

I've got an old Nokia 8310 somewhere if you're interested. Great little phone, sacked in favour of fashion.

We recently went from 6310i's to 6320i's. The 6310i was rock solid and reliable, but the new ones are full of bugs. Apart from the camera, I often wish I had the old one back.

I have a Motorola A780 with built in sat nav, free with a years contracton on BT........................Not bad and the sat nav works.........Co-Pilot.

I have a nokia 3120.Deleted rubbish games off so now it is virtually just a phone thank God.Gave my Razr to the wife who hates it with a passion too. Will never sign up for 18 month contract again, ever.

Phones revolve mainly around the kids now.Music, texting M8's and pictures.Amazed people say they couldn't live without those things on their phone. The phone companies just enjoy taking the kids pocket money off them.

Peoples lives are revolving around them.

Crackers.

have a look at www.gsmarena.com it shows the up coming phones.

I was going to wait until the K800 came out but I needed a replacement sooner as my old phone (3 years old now) was starting to fail. So I went with the W810i. It's not bad, cant say I really use the MP3 that much.

So far it seems fine on the reliabilty front, has not crashed so far nor has it done random actions.

I send far more text messages than I make or receive calls , partly because I get 5 free messages a day and also because they are less intrusive than a phone call.

A half decent camera is occasionally handy to have with you (I'm thinking in case of car accidents) but I could happily live without one.

The MP3 side of things is of no interest to me as I don't use public transport at all , but when I did I always had a walkman with me. That would now be replaced by the mp3 playback on a phone

I love my nokia 6630. As said by the dr above, its handy to have a half decent camera for those kodak moments. I also love having tom tom mobile on it so never get lost anymore. As a phone its pretty good too, with a decent quality of voice and speaker. Texting is nice on the keypad. Being on the 3 network is handy too as last night i was on the train during the england game and they sent me 10 second clips of the goals so i didnt miss out.

I've got some ancient Nokia (don't even know or care what model it is), it just sends messages, allows me to make phone calls and lets me play "snake". That's all i need.

How about something like this for a small camera to keep in the car... http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/GENNA/256/336/-/171285/Credit_Card_Size_Digital_Camera/Product.html?searchtype=genre

I'm looking at getting another mobile phone as well at the moment but there aren't that many great phones about, so i'll stick with the Samsung D500 and wait to see what comes out.

The latest phone I have now is a Samsung D600. It is so much better than the Motorola I had before, and works flawlessly (had it about 6 months, and use it for work so gets a hard life).

Nokia you can keep.
