Fixing door seal

Featured Replies

Hello!

My Octavia RS came from factory with the rear right window trim a little unstuck. Now, I have found that the door seal is also broken.

Is there a way to fix the rubber seal without replacing the whole piece? I'm afraid that replacing the whole seal could end in worse shape that it's now.

The car is under warranty but I fear that the dealer may not be very careful fixing it.

Window trim (it can be lifted more than this):

Same as my, I think I damaged it but for now I think this is from factory  too😁

Hi all,

Something similar happened to the front door seals, in the area of the pillars, probably because of the friction with the trousers pockets. In first place I thought that I'm the only one that I don't know how to get off front the car, but I also checked the passenger side where the "issue" is present too. Only 11k km on the clock, SK is so disappointing, lowering the quality.

Is there a way to fix an to prevent seal completely breakage?

Hi - I'm browsing seal-related posts and read yours with interest, after discovering this eyebrow raising situation on my 10-days-owned 21-plate Approved Used Scala. It's at the bottom of the driver's side inner door seal. I only found it while vakking broken glass that was left after some scummer punched in my driver doorglass some time on day six of my ownership (nothing inside to take, and no entry achieved due to deadlocked door). I've messaged the dealer and hoping they will step up to rectify it. God knows what it will cost otherwise. I cannot for the life of me think how it has happened, given the position. An exciting 10 days, all things considered - Autoglass cannot repair the glass until next Tuesday....😭

...and there's more; while contemplating the damage to my own driver side inner door seal, I read in the Skoda service manual a reference to a "hammer finish" door seal. Can anyone explain what is meant by a "hammer finish" door seal? Thanks in advance.

Ever used the non-smooth version of Hammerite paint? That's hammer finish.

Oh my sides! 😁 I have now established that hammer finish refers to the use of a soft-head mallet for installing the seal.

And here...is what it should look like - but we don't see it under normal circumstances. The rubber has been cut away for illustrative purposes. I find this sort of thing fascinating. It should be taught as part of the national curriculum. There are so many things we take for granted - we go through life oblivious to all the trial and error that has taken place, often at great expense and even at the cost of ruin when patents fail or first versions don't work or development money runs out, all done by people who have an idea and pursue it. Just take the bit of metal in this pic - imagine the time and energy involved in getting to the point where a machine exists to cut and shape it, and the machine elsewhere which creates the rubber with the metal embedded. Humbling, I say.

I work for Renault and fitted a few to the captur, they usually go over the whole door and inside around the window. Plenty of silicone lube and you can do it without taking the door card and window out. I'd try and get a warranty claim out of it. If they cause damage get them to fix it.
