Wow, that's a tough one. 2001, Star Wars, Alien (even though it's just an animation of the word "Alien" really), Catch me if you can, Taxi Driver, James Bonds, Jaws (of course) lots and lots to choose from. In fact, I often think a good opening title sequence tells you a lot about what's to come in terms of quality. Great directors always have great openings. 

 

Perhaps this one is on my favourites list as it's atmospheric and the film’s music is to die for (Michel Legrand)
