Is there any USB Splitter?

Featured Replies

That works with the USB C sockets on the car?

I've been wanting to install a USB C splitter into the car so I can the charger on, then have two USB sticks in the other, one for music & other for maps should the need arise. Every one has failed to be recognised so far! 😞

Iget what you are saying but don't get the maps bit !

Well my car is nearly 1. So as I'm no longer in the financial position to pay for the map upgrades, I'll have to have them on a USB stick and download them at home, unless of course I've got the wrong end of the stick?

I mean normally I'll use Waze or GM for navigation, but if they're not available for any reason I can fall back to the Skoda built in system to provide it.

Are there USB-C ports in the back of your RS? There is on my SEL FE, and I use one of those to charge an extra phone if need be. They are power only, no data connection.

Yes, I do, it's just my phone charger & holder are located above the infotainment screen and I was trying to actively avoid doing long cable runs without using adhesive cable clips.

I've already had to resort to an adhesive disc on the dashboard to avoid the dreaded suction cup circle on it. I don't want to start putting sticky cable tidy clips to the console.

Hi again

No I just wondered what the ref  to the maps, In my last car you had to plug a lead into the phone and the Radio to get the

likes of Waze Etc, but with these it is wireless, and I was thinking thats what you meant.

but ok on the "Paying for the map updates " I get that  but I have just paid for the subscription, but not as dear as a update

for my other car, it was about £150 for the disc, needless to say I did not get the disc.

I mean I want Waze on the Cockpit display but can't have it seems. That would save my £44 pa, Care Connect is useful, just checking the car now with it that's £36 pa, which is peanuts, but when you have gone from £73k pa, to £28.8k pa, things and attitude change a bit.

Ah! Ok, can understand that!

No, a splitter will not work in the front to give you extra data ports.

If you attach a splitter to a normal desktop or laptop the system will install special software in order to recognise the device.  It's not just a mechanical switch, it has internal electronics to enable the multiple ports to each have their own 'address'.  Unless Skoda have preprogrammed the infotainment centre to recognise a splitter, you are shafted.

However, as the rear ports are for charging only, they might just accept a splitter, though the charging current available will be shared.

To some extent this is making a problem.

If your only need of the map memory stick is for emergency use if mobile maps fail (can't get signal etc), then doesn't need to be plugged in all the time.  It's sort of got same status as keeping road Atlas map book.

Only needs to be in the car, not available continuously, just has to be there for backup. I don't see why it needs to be permanently running in shadow mode.

So if I plug in a USB stick with the latest maps it'll update the whole system then?

I don't think it is just a matter of plugging it in, I think you will have to install them

OK I'll have to find a drive and try it, I downloaded & extracted the latest one's last night they're currently sitting on an external SSHD unit.

This is what's confusing me...

Sat Nav Inst..jpg

Now confused as there's no option to update it. 😕

Hardly an explicit set of instructions and can see the opportunity for confusion.

FWIW, my interpretation is that it could take a while to update the whole map dataset hence the recommendation to leave the flash drive plugged. Not sure I have any idea how long 'a while' is though. If it were me, I'd do it on a trip to the in-laws some 300 miles away rather than a run to the local supermarket.

If you're not doing any/many long trips maybe just leave it in the port for a few weeks and check the Nav Db dates periodically to if/when it's updated; it'd only need to be once a year or so.

A thought.

Have you tried both music and maps on the same flash drive?

I've reformatted the drive now I have lost interest at the moment, It takes the best part of 30' to transfer all of my music to the USB drive, it takes 35' to transfer the mapping data to the USB drive, the USB drive is 64Gb, so to try anything different will require a larger USB drive which I can partition, so you're on about a 256, 512 or 1Tb USB drive and I haven't got the money at the moment as I'm expecting a major hike in insurance after that a**e with the SORN'd Ferrari hit me earlier in the year, even though I was exonerated by the dashcam footage + other evidence, although I do have protected NCB.

It's all going wrong at the moment so this can go on the backburner until later.

Understood.

Yeah, that 'to do' with the Ferrari is/was a right pain. Good luck with the insurance/NCB

I'm just prioritising stuff at the moment, especially as HMRC are being complete 🤬 and taxing my pension hard which is my only income now.

Tried similar and the infotainment system instantly rejects them.  🙁

Hmm, had a feeling that might be the case 😒

I got this from Amazon - £4.99 and it seems to be doing sort of the job. Music on SD and plugged in a USB to C cable for charging as well but I've a recollection that when I also added a Micro SD the car only saw one memory card, not two. That said, it does show storage on the phone as well as storage on a card.

I'd have likes a slightly longer cable to USB C to allow stuffing it further away from the slot as it's only ~3 inches long, but no big deal.

Yes, but its not a splitter, its an adapter - which is why it doesn't allow both the SD card slot and the USB socket to be used together for data.
