Car has already found its way to its new helpers. I'm not going to advertise who as putting engines back together is not their line of work normally. They make most of their business from LPG conversions. Anyhow, the garage MD knows TSR very well, originally starting out as an apprentice there. I have every confidence this time - and I won't get a bill until the car is MOT'd and road ready.

Andre, probably won't be ready for 22nd, but I'm sure you will run another mega meet in the Spring, so will certainly make a date for that one.

Thanks

Lee,

You don't have to be in a Skoda, any make will do mate as long as it goes it would be great to see you.

Me too! I kept checking this thread to see if there was any update.

Lee, glad there is now some progress. As others have said, you have managed to keep a level head, at least in 'public' anyway, despite the circumstances.

Hope all goes well.

retention of title arguement will ensue, 1st pass from Battys today, sounding like they are challenging title from the off.

Not what Jayne had said would be cooperating...

My invoices have had Goods remain the propery of Badger5 Ltd until paid for in full for a number of years, following credit card fraud which cost me a few

As far as I know, Bill got all his matters sorted. I believe that the parts he had supplied were still on the shelf at TSR and were returned to him.

Thanks

My enthusiasm for level headed-ness is sadly starting to wilt. Garage have now begun looking at the car and were ready to start putting the engine back together come the end of the week. However I received one of those really bad news phone calls yesterday. The car was running a Motec ECU along side the standard management module. Anyhow, to cut to the chase, this has been removed from the car and is now missing presumed stolen (whilst still at TSR).

Taking advice and the fact that after 11 months I just want the thing back on the road, I think we are canning the idea of a 2.0L rebuild and instead are investigating a cheaper option of a low mileage complete engine 1.8T 225bhp spec unit from Dialynx. Onto this the plan is to stick an IHI charger on, Revo map it on the original ECU and be done with it. As an end result, I want 300bhp + out of the car but at this stage, I'd be happy sticking a 1.4i unit in

Oh Lee! Just when you thought it was all coming back together. Toerags!

Bad news Lee. :thumbdwn:

Can sell any parts to try recover some of the loss?

Seems a shame to scrap the engine plans over a missing ECU. Will a custom map using the standard ECU not allow you to use it?

Also a generic Revo remap (even stage 3) isn't ideal to go with an IHI turbo, you'd be much better off with a Custom map IMHO.

I can understand you just want the car back together and be able to drive it but after all the time and stuff that's gone on I'd stick it out until you get what you actually want rather than a compromise. I know I wouldn't be happy 'making do'.

Agreed that it does seem a bit of a shame to scrap plans. However from the point of view of cost at the mo, its going to be less painful to put a replacement unit in the car than continue with the rebuild. You're right in terms of not wishing to compromise, I got a set of forged pistons, some H section rods and a flowed head, along with a machined block, not to mention all the other ancillary bits. However, a VW Corrado currently resides in my garage. I see a possibility of putting this conversion into use at a later date!

:(

what carp news lee, suppose its too late to get onto them about it?

this far in i think i would go whole hog on it rather than backing off :D but understand the wanting it back on the road asap

Hold out, Car has been off the road for so long, why not wait a month or two to get the funds together and carry on with your project, you know it will be worth the wait.

Seems the general consensous is to hold on in there and persevere. Had another chat with the garage today on the way forward here. Meanwhile, here are some pics of the progress so far :D The car itself (minus the engine of course) is a little dusty and has damage to the rear bumper just behind the nearside wheel. Still was nice to see it again after all this time!

Without being as scientific as conducting a poll on people's views: the stick with it, or get the car back on the road ASAP plan has now been debated and we are carrying on with the project as per your majoirty opinion here.

New bits like gaskets, belts, oil/water pumps have been ordered, and the engine could be in and running by the end of the month, when I shall have a chance to give it a drive. Following repair of the wiring loom and reinstatment of the OE ECU/drive by wire system the car will be run in before being given a remap (I guess of my choice). So, given a 2.0l IHI'ed unit who would you seek out. I guess the majority of cars that have been IHI'ed have been done through Jabba. Any thoughts?

I'd recommend you speak to Bill @ Badger5 as he has probably done more miles on IHI'd 1.8T's than most, having had 2 cars running them in various states of tune. He had Jabba and now has Custom-Code so will be in a good position to give pro's and con's of both.

Also I think you've made the right decision by pushing on with the original plans, I'm sure you'd have regretted it if you hadn't.

Update: 2nd Jan 2007

The yellow peril last turned its crank at around midday on 12th November 2005.

Without wanting to get too exicted, the engine may be back in the car by the end of the week!!!!!!! It might even be running come the following week  That will be approximately 420 days since it died. :woohoo:

yay, good news Lee, keep us posted :)
