Karoq 1.5 SE L cabin noise

Featured Replies

Hello all, I am new to the forum.

Just purchased a 2023 Koraq 1.5SE L with 2,000 miles on the clock.

I am surprised by the amount of cabin noise on most road surfaces unless driving on pan flat new tarmac (Goodyear tyres).

Has anyone any experience of the same issue - or is this 'normal' for this car.

My previous car an Insignia Grand Sport 2.0D was silent in comparison.

It is a shame because it takes away the enjoyment of driving the car - even considering changing it already.

Yes I experience the same with both summer and winter tyres. On some road surfaces especially motorways it is like a low level drumming.

My Octavia was much quieter.

I have the same car and agree it's not especially quiet at speed.

I was hopeful a recent switch to Michelin all-season tyres would help,  but sadly not the case.

I've also noticed several rattles have recently become evident,  mainly from drivers door, drivers side dashboard and boot/parcel shelf area.

I too was considering bailing out, but following a recent visit to the supplying dealer (and several online valuations confirming a large drop in part-ex price) this option no longer appears economically viable.

Except for certain types of surfaces, concrete motorways being one, I can’t say I notice much cabin noise. I’m running the standard, factory fitted 19” rims with Bridgestone on a ‘23 SportLine.

Particularly rough tarmac can sometimes cause a droning sound but it’s usually temporary.

Daft question but are the tyre pressures correct? Dealers will often over inflate tyres on cars stood on forecourts etc.

Thats not good news, have you been following prices of the Karoq, thought they were holding their own?

Re prices holding their own, not any more.

Used prices have taken a distinct nose-dive recently (and the cost of a new one has risen.

I'd have thought under-inflated tyres would be noisier.     Standing at the side of the coarsly surfaced 40MPH road out of our village, it's quite surprising how much road noise comes off cars - any kind of SUV is pretty deafening.

Karoq does have oddly low tyre pressures - so maybe higher would help.  Although I found raising ours made the front tyres more skittish on starting off from wet junctions.

I wouldn't have said ours - on Michelin Primacy 3's - was noteably noisy.  Seems pretty similar to Tiguan we had before, although it does feel like a cheaper car - I suppose because it is.

Yes for the same speed under inflation would be noisier as there is more rubber contacting the road surface.

Having always owned standard saloon / hatchback cars, I am unsure if in general SUV type vehicles create more road noise.

One thing I have noticed is that with the Varioflex rear seats in my car the parcel shelf is a thin retractable membrane as opposed to a solid piece of material. This could be detrimental to noise damping.

We bought a 2020 Sportline 1.5dsg in May and within the first few weeks the 19in Vega rims and OEM Bridgestones had driven us up the wall, noisy and an all around pita. They picked up every bump and hole in the road, nightmare. Switched to Michelin CrossClimates, absolute revelation, far less noise and the ride improved immeasurably

I have a 2021 SEL on factory fitted 18" Michelin Primacy's and wouldn't say its any noisier than my previous vehicles. Yes, on some surfaces there is some drumming from the rears which , as has been said, is not so well deadened on the SEL due to the lack of any hard barrier between the boot area and the cabin. Can't say I find it obtrusive though...

Lay a rug in the boot?

Ours is very quiet over most road surfaces, quieter than most other cars we've owned.

Quiet on the motorway thankfully.

Does anyone know if the  2022/11  SE L should come with the reversible boot mat as standard?

Our 2023 1.5 SE L came with the reversible boot mat,  although this does little to quieten the car at speed
