Flashing Fuel and Temp Gauges

Featured Replies

Hi, a new one for my car, but just seeing if anyone else had had both their Temp and Fuel gauge flash during driving? I noticed it happening at the back end of a 2 hour drive, both the Temp on the left and Fuel on the right started flashing irregularly, then stopped flashing then started again, happened for about 10 mins, all fine since, but no idea why it happened. Main part of the dash was fine with no flashes at all. Possibly just another 'feature' of the electronics!

I had that in my 2020 SE L FE.

The dealer fixed it a while back, s/ware I think. Will have a dig through my notes to see if I recorded the fix and add comment here.

Found my notes from Feb 2023…

The gauge lights continue to flicker, apparently there is a TPI (whatever that is) to fix this.

Then April 2023…

  1. Update for flickering gauges. Update applied to remedy this (Škoda TPI).”

That fixed the flickering gauges.

Add my notes from last year

Had this once on a long trip. Never repeated again so I didn't bother reporting it. As Steve mentioned, there is TPI for that issue, however I remember reading this TPI, it was saying that issue should be reproducible and customer should be able to show it. I guess this is somewhat standard for TPIs so will depend a lot on a workshop if they'll accept it and just make an update or will say they couldn't reproduce and thus will leave it as it is.

Hello @matrix2020,

Just visit your dealer with TPI No.: 2068282/3 which stands for Digital instrument panel (FPK) - flickering indicator in your hands, and ask them to update the software version on the Instrument Cluster (module 17).

I've had exactly the same problem that has been fixed one year back with the update to version 5370 for my car.

Good luck!

I managed to get a video of the flickering but the dealer didn't ask. As you say, it'll vary from dealer to dealer, and I have managed to build a good working relationship with my dealer which I am sure helps a lot.

Same problem here. The conversation with the dealer will now become much easier thanks to the info provided by @djmartzian.

Reading the attached document provided by @djmartzian, makes me wonder what

"Observe Service information: KESSY - key adaptation, instrument panel SW update 2040173/2!!!"

is all about (page 3).

And again, I find it extremely annoying that Skoda instructs dealers not to apply updates unless owners make specific complaints. They've known about this bug in their own software for a very long time (according to the document) but still the update was not installed when I had my car serviced approx. 4 months ago, just because I did not mention it. I thought this was one of the many issues that would be solved after the installation of 1941 (which was done by the dealer on my request at the last visit), but no no.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's my fault for forgetting to mention it at my last visit (the list I had with me was loooong but obviously not long enough). I knew from before that you have to make specific complaints.

But, is this behavior actually legal? They've sold a faulty product. They have themselves investigated and documented that their own product is faulty. I'm paying them to service my car but they don't bother fixing what they know is faulty.

I mean if several owners have had for example a problem with the same hose in the engine bay causing what Skoda deem to be a minor problem, and Skoda investigates and finds that the hose used in the manufacture of cars during year N is defective, then are they not obliged to replace that hose the next time an owner of a car manufactured year N pays to have hers/his car serviced at an authorized Skoda dealership?

@SiWaiting from my computer tech standpoint, don't fix it if it's not broken. In this case I wouldn't apply and updates it they are not necessary.

In TPIs you will find how much time (time units) fixing should take. Based on this number Skoda compensates the work of workshops. Now imagine how much money they save when they don't force updates and there are many people like me, who had issue only once and couldn't get bothered.
I'm not a fan of such approach when it is something concerning bigger issues, like we all had with faulty infotainment software or comms modules, and I'd rather make it illegal for them to keep fixes for themselves unless car owner complains. But I'm sure they'll find the way how to make workshop a scapegoat and not bear any responsibility as a brand. In the end, they issue service campaigns to fix stuff, including software, and dealers don't bother contacting car owners and booking appointments for that either.

I am on 5340 currently. Have no flickering problems as such but the VC views are pretty bland with central area only showing speed in large font. I have seen some cars with central area showing speed, mileage and distance. My question is - Does your VC shows central view like in the image below?

Or like this? Currently my screen looks like this

On first picture is FL, on second one is pre-FL.

I guess in a short while the only questions being figured out on this board will be the confusion between facelift and older models.

Hi. I appreciate your response. But both the pics are from pre-facelift vehicles. From what I gather, sometime after Jun 2022, they switched to this detailed view. I am hoping the difference is due to new software only.

I'd say it's the newer VC module in the first view (The one where you retain the gauges when in satnav/map view). Mine is a january 2022 MY22 car and I have the older VC module where the Map/satnav view only has the speed readout at the bottom rather than the gauges still showing either side. I believe the newer VC change came about with the MY23 cars which started production mid 2022 and it's a newer VC module/display itself rather than just a software change/update.

Good to know. It just looks exactly as on FL, but myself, I've never seen it myself on pre-FL cars, including 2023 models.

No both are mark 4. The 4.5 has the speed always higher in the display for a start. The dual styling and font is different, cruise control info is up high to the left and there is a permanent range to empty device at the bottom of the rev counter and many other little changes

Whats your VC cockpit software version? Have you tried upgrading it? In my country, we dont even get maps on VC. It sucks.

My VC firmware was updated to the latest version a couple have months ago under warranty due to having the flickering gauges issue. All been good since.
