I would send the unit from the donor vehicle for refurbishment to a professional company, so they could flash newer firmware if it were available

Here in GR? To whom?

  • Here is 200 euro fine, 9 points on the System, the Policeman removes at once your license plates and your driving licence. You can take them both back after 60 days.   In case of recurr

  • 1.In the UK crossing a Solid white line is an offence   2. in the UK Speed limit signs (red circle) are not "do this speed by this point" it is "maximum speed after that point".

  • @Stonekeeper Same in GR but especially in country the Traffic Police isn't so ''by the book'', it's a bit ''elastic" as we say here.

At least the EDS version is 4-channel, but duty cycle is 5-6 cycles/s (same figure for the older MK3 golf system)

Very interesting, wondering if anyone can flash a newer firmware on those units and make them live up to more modern standards.

Sadly, they will try, but never fear, if we all try to make our voices heard with our votes, things may (I HOPE) change.

The European Union is set to overhaul the continent’s transport sector with a sweeping plan to phase out older passenger vehicles. The initiative targets the gradual removal of polluting and unsafe cars from European roads, beginning in 2026 with vehicles meeting Euro 1 standards, and extending to all models up to Euro 6 by 2050.

Greece, with one of the oldest car fleets in Europe, is at the center of this transition. The average age of Greek private vehicles exceeds 17 years, compared to a European average of 12 to 13 years.

Under the EU proposal, developed in collaboration with the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), cars that fail to meet modern safety and emissions standards will be retired in stages:

  • 2026: Euro 1 vehicles (1992–1996)

  • 2030: Euro 2 vehicles (1996–2000)

I guess it's a hardware limit and it would need a newer unit. I wonder how much vehicle-specific is firmware in those units and if you could use one from a different vehicle. Some Lupos had ESP-capable systems, those could be faster.

Yeah, true but I guess its a hardware limitation to a certain extent but it can be tuned for modern tire technology which would significantly improve its overall behavior
