Smartlink activation in south west UK

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Has anyone had their smartlink activated in Bristol (or south west / nearby) ?

Heritage Bristol just quoted £395 for this, which from other posts looks to be way higher than before (around £150.)

Is this the only option? Seems a shame to have such great functionality and then have to pay such a lot for it to be enabled.

Thanks

If you decide to use the link above would you mind posting the result please.  I'm also looking to activate Smartlink  in my 2016 Octavia.

I rang the local dealer and they wanted £162 and hadn't got any in stock, when I asked, any what in stock, the guy said that he thought the way to activate Smartlink was by putting a sim card into the head unit

and they were on a long back order from Ukraine.I have always been under the impression the dealer had to do some coding.

I then rang the dealer where I bought my car from and they replied that they had no info for activation in Octavias because Octavias don't have Smartlink, every other skoda but not them.

Since VAG stopped the TMC service I've had a phone on the windscreen running Waze just for live updates on the route but really would like to use the screen in the infotainment unit.

Cheers

The dealer buys an activation kit from Skoda, which I believe is 000054830A. That will contain an activation code and instructions how to use ODIS with an online connection to enable Smartlink against that vehicles VIN.

This means that if in future the headunit is replaced, Smartlink will remain activated on the new unit as the VIN has the right entitlement :)

I just tried one of the cheapie (well...£30!) bay options, which promised activation Smartlink and Carplay and AndroidAuto.

Came as two downloads - a software update and a patch. Both installed fine from SDcard, and Smartlink is activated. BUT, only Mirrorlink shows as an icon. Carplay and AndroidAuto are no shows. Mirrorlink is discontinued, no longer supported on phones and I cannot get an old version to install on my phones...

Have tried connecting four phones (iphone and android) and various cables, but each time it recognises that a phone is connected then falls over with not supported...so a waste of £30.

The seller has suggested I need to get OBD11 and change VCDS settings....because the USB isn't working (which it is).

You need to enable the Carplay & Android Auto menu entries via coding.

How to do that? What is needed?

OBDeleven/VCDS/ODIS/VCP/VCtool/ Similar

Infotainment system

Adaptations

Apple DIO - Enable

Google Gal - Enable

You may also require a replacement USB port to use Apple devices. This would then require further coding

If the activation was carried out by a specialist such as ourselves, or a main dealer; then the above would be taken care of

Is there wireless option for smart link in Bolero?

None of the infotainment systems in the Mk3 Octavia have a wireless option for AA or CarPlay, you need to use a third party wireless adapter plugged into the USB socket.

Thanks @PetrolDave, could you please recomend any adapter available on AliExpress ?

AliExpress no, I don't use AliExpress.

I use a CPlay2Air which is only for CarPlay, can't advise on an adapter for Android Auto as I use an iPhone.

Just to confirm - this was from Vision Coding?

Did you get the email delivery or SD card by post?

This can be done for free on certain models e.g Amundsen MIB2 using MIB2Toolbox and VCDS/OBD11.

Yeah not an option for me on OBD 11 unfortunately, i already checked.

Check the video in my edited previous post. It definitely works. Sounds a bit technical but it's really fairly simple. Check the poster's other videos especially the one on how to install the toolbox.
