You can't drive in the Czech Republic with an old paper UK driving license - you need either the new UK photocard license or an international driving license complete with photo (£7.50 from the post office). The AA website has a list of legal requirements for driving abroad.

HTH :)

Dave both of our licences are at the AA Place in Basingstoke (see address on AA site).

Well, I'm taking a couple of pairs of shorts now, and will probably drive in a pair too. Forecast for Thursday in Prague is bright sunshine and 27 degC. :woohoo:

oohh! I better take a skirt then!! You wont have seen me in one of those before! But yes, I do own one! more than one infact! lol!

Loz,

Better look out for a video camera in the foot well then. Don't want to see another video on Google in the upskirts section.;)

Not that I will be looking in there.

thanks for the warning lol

Is anyone taking food to eat in the accommodation ie breakfast.

Actually mine arrived on Friday ;)

I thought we might be eating out for brekkers, but as we're on a fairly tight schedule, I think it would be ideal if someone could bring a cooler box with a decent amount of semi-skimmed, and I'll bring some cereal. :D Or is everyone a bacon/sausage person? ;)

Also, not sure on rules of carrying food, so we might end up buying food in CZ for brekkers, rather than taking Brit food?

Might find a local store near the appartment.

I have a big cooler box that will run of the 12 volt power socket in the boot i will take that if that is the option most of us are going for. Let me know.

Personally having cereal and milk is fine by me. I just don't know the rules on travelling with dairy products / meat. They mentioned it to me in customs when I came back into the country from the Ring, but can't remember it in detail. Probably just as easy to buy milk and cereals out there. :)

I was going to bring tea and coffee .But bring a cup,i have got a travel kettle but im hoping there is one in the room .I need my coffee in the morning:D

.I need my coffee in the morning:D

If you like your coffee when you are in cz go for a traditional turckiska (sp) its ground coffee and hot water let it stand and give it a stir otherwise its like eating a teabag - its great tasting stuff - you can buy it in most places even the bar at the museum

I've seen warnings about car crime in PRague is pretty bad. Have we all got reserved spaces in a secure carpark? I know there was talk about it.

Yes and no!.

Yes we will all have secure parking spaces but I have not manged to get more than the two that were originally allocated with the appartments despite several requests and begging e-mails!. The travel company I have been dealing with say that the reamining four cars can park in a secure car park close by which I believe is attached to the National Theatre.

As to who parks where hasn't been decided but we can sort that out on route.

I'm getting impatient now. I'm sat at work on the phones and it's absolutely dead. I will be in tomorrow too then setting off on weds morning. Something tells me that my two day weeks is gonna feel like a full one! Can't wait to set off and get away from this dump again!

As for breakfast and coffee etc it doesn't bother me, I can do without breakfast if I have to and I hate coffee so not bothered re: kettle, but as long as I have a hairdryer I'm happy! Oh, and straighteners!! lol! So whatever you decide should be fine by me!

Re: :)

1) prerequisite to take a taste - everybody love this

2) Nice pub with its own (very strong 14°) beer for app 40 CZK and also Czech cuisine - http://www.ufleku.cz/en/

3) Important info, especially for Shifty

4) Yep, this is true, just don´t speak to these guys and they´ll let U go - they are a shame of Prague

5) Also very good tip

6) :D

7) Better to use your credit cards ;)

Having just returned from a trip to Prague' date=' I must wish you all the best for your trip. Prague is a fantastic place and you should enjoy every minute of it.

I have to be honest with you I don't really fancy driving round in the city myself at any time of day as the traffic and some of the streets are INSANE. Here is a tame one;

If I could give anyone some advice on going out in Prague it would be this;

1. You have to try the more local cusine of Pork, Dumplings and Saurkraut. Huge portions (Lots of meaty goodness!) and really tasty!

2. Beer and drink prices vary wildly from 40kr of a large pilsner to 190kr for a small pilsner. It's worth checking this out before you go into any "club". There are plenty of bars in Praha 1 that will serve you a cold frothy one for a good price. It's all really good by the way :) Stay away from Fernet Stock unless you really hate yourself.

3. If you do go into a Cabaret club be aware that some of them don't just offer the usual dancing entertainment  I have seen things over the last few days that I will never be able to tell my kids about. There was this incident with a Midget and a snake but i'll leave that there ;)

4. If you go out in St.Wencelas Sq in the evening be prepared for a lot of touts trying to drag you into above mentioned clubs. It can be quite a mission to get down the square, stay focused and keep walking.

5. Sightseeing - You can see all the good stuff in one day but it's tough. Use the metro, trams or buses to help you. Charles bridge is cool as as is the Astro clock but avoid the Musem of Communisim, it's crap :(

6. Everyone seemed to know I was an english speaker before I had said anything. Either english is used a lot or I must badly look like a fat welsh tourist. I think both, which is a good think because I found Czech really hard to get right. Some phrases however (Like "Please", "Thankyou", "Yes", "No", "How Much" etc are very useful.

7. Cashpoints in the centre are rare. Also be aware of the exchange rate as you can end up paying a lot for things. I paid 90kr for a can of Coke at the airport (That's around £2.50ish  but it did get rid of my change) thinking it was about 90p :(

Prague is a really laid back town and it almost feels stressless. In general the people are friendly and helpful and I will be going back for sure. I had a fantastic time and hope you do too (Just gutted I am missing your factory tour :( )

Breakfast in Prague is eggs and meat (Cold meat). If you are in the centre of Prague you can get food anywhere. Mcdonalds is always open ;)

Mcdonalds is always open ;)

Ewwwww - McDonalds for breakfast! :thumbdwn:

The travel company I have been dealing with say that the reamining four cars can park in a secure car park close by which I believe is attached to the National Theatre.

It is the National Museum, not theatre! :) Theatre is on Vltava river bank - quite far away from Venceslas Sq. ;)

Is the National Museum the big building at the top of the boulevard above Wenceslas Square? We spent most of a morning in there - it was fab!

Yep! :)

My goodness. Whats all this talk of cool boxes, and taking coffee and cereals etc....... We are going abroad, on a road trip for heavens sake. When in Rome etc.... Why drive 1000 miles to drink Nescafe and eat Coco pops?

.. or eat Maccy D's
