Rogue cable in boot area.

Featured Replies

Hello.. first proper post for a newbie owner..

So.. after almost a month after i bought it, i finally have the Octavia SE L First Edition estate after The dealership have finally managed to fix the inability to sign in issue (numerous updates from 1941 onwards to eventually 1969 (which their service manager swore blind did not exist) as well as ‘deep fault finding’ in the MIB?? Unit which apparently ended up being wiped and reinstalled???) main thing is i can now sign in AND the SOS pop is so far fixed…

apologies.. excited waffle going on..

so… while giving it a bit of a clean and vac out in places you figure a dealership wouldnt check… i found a green cable in the tyre well that ive not fully investigated yet, but i’m thinking its not standard… goes along rear edge of tyre well from the left to right with a square of silver tape?? Terminating it on the right.. thought i’d post a few pics in case anyone had seen and investigated something similar?… will keep you all on the edges of your seat and informed if i get a chance to pull panels off this weekend..

Is it not for the tailgate opening by means of the foot swipe !

The last time this came up it was a factory fitted sensor to check on water ingress during the monsoon test.

And yes I have it too.

Oh.. and i tried to search it before i posted too.. sorry!

so, that explains why the wire looks like it has a bare wire wrapping around the outside of it then does it? I thought it was a poor attempt at reinforcing it.

You have to turn the "Virtual Pedal" (as it's officially called) on via the headunit otherwise you can kick your foot under the rear bumper as much as you like without the boot opening. ;)

When i got my (new to me) vRS last month it didn't work so figured mine hadn't got it for some reason or it was faulty then realised it was turned off in the vehicle settings on the HU. Once i turned it on it worked fine.

My Virtual Pedal is 'active', but the thing has worked successfully maybe twice in the entire 16 months I've had the car (from new). I gave up with it due to looking like a fool kicking away under the car to no avail. It's annoyingly temperamental in my experience, a bit like the Voice Control.

Can you give me a link to the settings as I have not found any thing that gives the option to switch on ?

Precisely, thats not what it shows, it shows a picture of a car and inner and outer setting but nothing like the activating and deactivating you show above

I do not have 'Easy Open' and that option is missing on my screen.  I presume that it is only displayed if the car has the functionality and the OP does not have Easy Boot opening..

(Similarly other options that I do not have are not displayed on my screen).

The press pack from Jan 21 says £158.33

Opening  with the fob is standard

The previous owner must have left it off the order, although I have the wires in the boot

Just press & hold the boot button on the fob and it opens & closes automatically with the warning bleeps.

What has got to do with the Virtual Pedal !

It proves you don't need to stand outside your car waving your leg under the boot ldoing some weird dance & looking like a complete wally.

I just went and checked my car, it has "Easy Open" highlighted in Green which suggests that it's active and yet when I try to wave my foot under the rear bumper nothing happens. Not that Im worried too much about it.

I'd say it has everything to do with it when the VP doesn't work!

It's not the virtual pedal.

The virtual pedal has two sensor cables mounted parallel on the inside of the bumper cover. This photo is of a Superb but it is installed identically on the Octavia:

If I had to guess, maybe that green cable was for a subwoofer.

When you say wave your foot to me that means you are moving your foot side to side under the bumper which is obviously the incorrect motion. You just kick your foot under the bumper in a forward motion.

Not sure about the action @TheWandererhas tried but the kick action sure doesn't work for me, whereas the old school fob method is perfect every time
