Sat Nav Update

Featured Replies

I've been on the Skoda Update Portal, entered my VIN and then downloaded the Sat Nav Map update Zip file. I also downloaded the update manual.

I inserted the SD card with the update on but got an error message as no map data was found - here is a screenshot of the SD card conetents:

q1. Does this look correct?

q2. Should I have the original Skoda Sat Nav SD card inserted AND the update card in the spare slot?

Thanks

Attached the doc too.

You have to apply the update to the Skoda card. It has a security partition on it.

Yes the update must go on skoda card ,other card is for music files i believe .

OK - I tried to copy the extracted files to the Skoda card but it failed as there was insufficient space.

On checking the Skoda card there is no security partition visible ( I've got show hidden files on.

Feels like an 'add' rather than a copy(replace)?

I only need the GB files - is it possible to select just the relevant files and copy across?

Feels like an old DOS XCOPY would be handy here!!!

The security partition is not visible using normal tools.  You have to delete the existing files or format the sd card. Then copy the extracted files onto the sd card.

OK thanks @JD52 - will give that a whirl!

It's good practice to save the existing files on to a PC beforehand, so you have them as a backup.

Thanks @PetrolDave..old IT Dog here! Made a copy to my PC - using XCOPY and I can see the two system files now.

I have also tried to update my sat nav, however when coping to the skoda card it crashes due to " card corrupt " tried a new card but it's not recognised.?

What can I do?

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Is the new card the correct (Skoda/VAG) one - or a standard SD card?

new card is a standard

Was the original SD card a branded 'Skoda' one? Are you aware that some nav units will only accept Skoda or VAG cards?

Specifically the Amundsen will only read sat nav maps off a Skoda or VAG SD card.

Not sure 20241013_144907.thumb.jpg.f5c6f44205926d48f066990293840fa1.jpg

It's a 2020 karoq

Tried doing a quick format on the card to FAT32?

- back on this one again! Following my original query, i was able to complete a successful map upgrade. However, this time, the SD card is not large enough to deal with any map updates with the UK....image.thumb.png.d260772b911d5b454bbccbf778c2ae75.png

Does this mean that in order to keep up to date with maps, I need to purchase a more recent Skoda/VW SD card? If so, how can I tell what size they are? Looking on ebay, there are loads but no indication of capacity.

Thanks

David

First thing to check if those maps will work with your Amundsen, I'm pretty sure that as you have a 2014 model it will be a MIB1 and Skoda discontinued MIB1 maps in 2020.

Ah right! That makes sense. Thanks @PetrolDave

Read this thread. Towards the end there is a work around which give you a map update to I think  2023. I did this with mine.

The files were just a bit too big for my card, so I just deleted some of the countries I knew I would not need.

The other option is to get a 16G card for your Amunsden system, then you can download all the maps and not have to bother with zones etc.

16GB and 32GB cards with part numbers beginning 5L0051236 (currently 52 of them on eBay) WILL work with a MIB1 Amundsen despite what som eBay sellers say - I know, I used one with my previous MIB1 Amundsen!
