So I believe. The paperwork if I could find it would confirm it.  I now have the VIN which should do so I think. Taken from the dashboard at Breezy Pete's suggestion :

I just looked at the DVLA site and read that it is a 1390cc petrol.

So yes, 1.4 TSI. As it's ULEZ compliant and I live in and mostly drive in London I would prefer to keep it on the road for as long as possible.

Hi all
I thought I should finish off this thread I started. Months have gone by and I have only just managed to correct faults and resurrect my car
^First I must thank my mechanic friend who suffered a fierce trauma when his motor was written off in September leaving him unhurt but very badly shaken ^ ; secondly I should thank my local hospital who dealt with the consequences to me of a bad fall. Now I am mobile but more disabled.
Initially it appears the cause of the oil warning alarm going off was the absence of any oil circulating because of a dud oil filter. When removed this had never seen a single drop of oil: it was as clean as if just removed from the box.  The lubrication system was seriously over-filled. About 6 litres - incredibly -  have been drained from the engine. But the cause of the alarm going off was the absence of any circulation of oil! A replacement oil filter stopped the warnings despite the engine apparently being grossly overfilled.

Sorry to hear about your situation, and that of your mechanic mate.  As I always say cars no matter what they are and are valued at cars are just lumps of metal but I'm glad your car issue is finally sorted and thank you for reporting this back.

 

It very unusual to have a faulty oil filter (unless it's some sort of fake or junk make(?)).  I can recommend the Mann engine oil filters as I fitted one to my wife's 2015 Fabia this summer and I had a good look at it before fitting it (the Tosch brand has never impressed me too much with car parts) AFAIK many brand names are made at the same factories but the standards and materials may vary, the Americans seem to love this subject but I believe they're generally(?) supplied by different factories than us..

 

Have a look at your 'Owner's Manual' for your car as to which light and it's colour is for what about the engine oil.  If you haven't got your very handy paper printed copy you can download a free VWŠkoda pdf copy from the VWŠkoda site for them. - https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models

Thanks for following this up so swiftly. I feel I should report that the dud filter was bought in Halfords together with the oil.

There is a pinned thread at the top of the Fabia Mk2 section on Oil Filters for 1.2 TSI,s of the wrong dimensions, names the Manufacturers name on the filter.

 

There is also threads on the common issue.

The Tech / Fitter / DIY,er forgetting to remove the oil rubber seal.  Also over tightening the oil filter.

Sorry to have appeared to ignore your enquiry. Initially I tried to find the offending filter but I must've chucked it. I do know that it wasn't Crosland. (Having bought an air filter in that brand and researched the brand I now never buy Crosland. I suspect your question is prompted by the strong suspicion that Crosland are rubbish trading on an historical name) Then Christmas intervened.  I have checked the Halfords website to find their recommended oil filter is a Bosch. So it must have been a dud I bought. To finish the saga here I should say that surprisingly the oil alarm is triggered by too low a pressure not too high. My Foxwell code reader is happy : another drain using my siphon/pump toy, a new Blueprint filter obtained from the most reputable independent in Croydon, a measured fill of Castrol GTX, assiduous attention to the dipstick and off I set with a brand new battery installed. I have now stopped praying to the automotive deities and all is well. Fears for my tyres having suffered from months of inactivity were unfounded as the MOT tester saw no cracks etc yesterday.

Well I don't think the quality might be the same as before the brand was bought, same as for many other famous brand names.  I'm  certainly not a fan of the brand Tosch overall for car bits some might be great and all perhaps reasonable but for electrical and electronic car bits personally I'd buy Japanese made or German made 11 times out of 10.  That's not to say the German labelled bits are actually made in Germany.  I've no idea where the Tosch oil filters are made, I think it used to be the case that oil filter manufacturing could be done by a manufacturer for different brand names, things like this are usually kept pretty secret.  Blue spot IIRC (not often enough) Blueprint is with Febi brand.  The Febi sump plugs I bought where OK but not high quality, perhaps they never were I don't know.

 

I can say I recommend the Mann I fitted to my wife's 2015 Fabia, that looked very good quality.

Low pressure is usually potential more serious than higher pressure, if the oil pressure drops it's often best to stop the engine smartish.  In very old cars oil pressure guages and lights were given up on as the average driver would be too concerned about the figures or needle movement or light coming on, supposedly some garages and mechanics sorted this by removing the bulb. 😆

Castrol are part of BP by the way, GTX started when it was owned by The Burmah Oil Company and Castrol Classic oils have been distributed by part of the MG Owners Club for a couple of decades, I used to own "classic" (old over-priced and over-valued cars).  I personally prefer to use a smaller British blender, Miller Oils, and their EE Performance engine oil, not because I like the car but because my wife does lots of short journeys in it.  A mates swears by Magnatec, well his relative works for Castrol.

Very kind to have followed up on my belated report.  Much useful info.

I have had the car cleaned by a very thorough group of Kurdish blokes locally ; it no longer looks as if I have been growing potatoes in it. It looks so smart I have been trying to find a wheel centre roundel to complete the look. Any idea?

Incidentally the MOT station I have used for 40 years is the local council (which can't risk skimping) : their oil is Morris's delivered in bulk. Might try it?

Is it the right oil for a TSI?

 

Spec is to VW502 00 for fixed oil and filter service intervals. 5w 40 FS, 

Or VW 504 00 / 507 00 for a Fixed or Variable oil service interval,  5w 30 FS III  (Long life oil.)

Only the usual, Dealership, eBay, it is perhaps more P&P than it's worth from Skoda parts suppliers abroad but you could look.

Yeah well known to some "classic" car owners, if your engine is the CAXA then this is the oil I found but never trust any source of information on things like this without checking and cross referencing for yourself, Multivis CST HP 5W-40. -

Post a picture of the wheels the centres are for.

Do you have the originals centres so that you know what is needed, and know the wheels are the original to the car?

 

Do you want the old style centres or the newer style?

The wheels et cetera are original so presumably the old style roundel would be more appropriate.
