Virtual cockpit configuration screen

Featured Replies

Setting up my new to me ex demonstrator and being driven mad by the useless manual.  I'm trying to change the display in the middle of the round dials and the video tells me that if you press the right scroll knob until you highlight the dial then rotate it it comes up with a configuration screen.

Well, it doesn't. It scrolls through car data, telephone data, route Data then back to car data again.

How do I dump route data and get something else in?

Chris

Hi, so click the right hand scroll wheel, the you should see green arrows up and down in the rhs screen. You can scroll up and down to select things. On some selections there is a right arrow. Here you can press the right arrow on the rhs oc the steering wheel, then you can choose what you want to see by ticking the box.

Now you can scroll up and down and see more.

To see the lhs selection, press the rhs scroll wheel twice, green arrows in the lhs (rev counter). Same as on the rhs, but press the left arrow when you see one in the centre of the rev counter.

Hole it helps.. I have mpg in the lhs and sat nav (that come from Google maps (only turn by turn, not actual map) in the rhs... happy clicking...

I have exactly the same problem here. Only a few options to scroll through with no way to configure what other ones are available. There is no green right arrow as mentioned here and in the video manuals . Infuriating

Visited the dealer who passed me to the 14 year old who understands these things. He thinks the configuration screen isn't available on UK spec cars. Unfortunately Skoda/VW have also decided only nerds need to see what gear you're in in a DSG. Not sure about that!

Weirdly, you can see what gear you are in if you select Sport but not Drive!

Just picked my Octavia a few days ago and I managed to select what to display. I'll go back out and recall the steps I took and post them shortly.

I can change "some" options but bit configure what options I can change it to. Like you can in a golf

Here's how I did it;

Engine running.

Click right scroll button so right dial has green circle.

Use right scroll button to highlight "settings".

Press button with right arrow/pages to enter selection menu.

Scroll up or down with right wheel to select/deselect items to display.

Once selected, press car icon button twice and display times out to normal.

That's interesting.  You're the second person to talk about a 'right arrow' and I'm the second person to not be able to find that option. I wonder if it depends on which structure you select. I went for the 'classic' look - rev counter to left and speedo to right. Maybe I should try more experimentation

It seems your missing the settings page for some reason. Mine is set to the classic look as well.

I did a quick video whilst waiting for Lidl to open this morning. This is on a 2021 iV PHEV. The video is too big to upload, so I have popped it on YouTube. To select items to display on the left or right:

  • Click the scroll wheel to select. The first click will bring up the green arrows on the right display, and the second on the left
  • The sub-menu  green arrow (either right or left depending on which display you are configuring) only appears where there is a sub-menu, which appears to be Backgrounds and Settings.
  • To enter the sub-menu click the left or right button below the wheel, corresponding to whether the green arrow is on the left or right.
  • You then enter the sub-menu. In Settings, selecting or deselecting determines which items become available for display.
  • When you have selected what you want, exit out of the menu (scroll to Back and click the wheel). You can then select what items you want to see but scrolling up and down using the wheel.

This is absolutely infuriating. I don't have any page appear in either of the dials that says settings or configuration. There are just 3 options in each dial... The left is just a couple of options for fuel consumption data and an oil temperature guage (annoying as oil temp is permanently displayed down the left side of/off the screen) and the right just shows a compass, android auto and the media/radio.

Wonder if it has anything to do with being a hybrid or not... The video manuals on the Skoda website is shown on a phev as there is a battery charge level screen to select if you want...

Mine is a 2020 1.5 TSI and. I get similar menus to those in the video above; yours is a 2024 FL (based on profile info) so I guess its more to do with that.

You think they'd add features rather than remove them wouldn't you

Do you actually have virtual cockpit? I think with the FL, there's no analogue dashboard anymore, only digital one. But, the digital should be a basic one, with a virtual cockpit version optional.

Maybe record a video so we can see what your FL layout looks like.

Just got a new Octavia Sportline and have also found that there are no sub menus to select.  Looking at the latest  online manual there is no mention of them but older versions do.  It looks like they have removed the option which is a bit frustrating.  It appears that on the inside of the left rev counter dial all I can have is oil temperature, distance travelled or current or average fuel consumption.  Some of this is already in the centre part of the display.  What I want is navigation in one of the dials and audio in the other dial.  Is that just not possible?

As you scroll through the options for each of the zones do you get a Settings item? In my pre-FL I do which allows for selection of items to show or hide in the scroll list.

No settings item unfortunately 😞

Quite different to the pre-FL virtual cockpit, more options yet less options!

Or rather, just different options.

It’s unfortunate- I had (what I assume is) exactly the same part in an Audi, even with the settings menus in the Skoda (which I have), it feels a lot less “useful”. It was nice on the audi to be able to slide between pages to get to nav destinations, phone calls, media… it feels odd to have to go into the dial selection to add media, nav,… to a dial to go back in and then select something. Selecting “home” or a recent destination in nav feels a lot harder now.

Hello all,

I'm not sure if this helps but in my friends SEAT Ibiza current generation the VC is setup from the main infotainment display. Only the view selection is adjusted on the steering wheel.

I wonder if this is the case with the Octavia now, selection if items moved to the infotainment display?

I think unfortunately it’s all part of the VAG “brand engineering” - to slightly cripple the same hardware as you go down the lines. Seems like a waste to me.
