They knackered my car... 😢

Featured Replies

Today my car has been in for the 5th time of asking to get the virtual pedal working.

And it still doesn't work!

They found a disconnected set of cables & connectors which they reinstated & charged me £324 (am claiming back from insurance)

But the infotainment system has been doing weird things, restarts, freezing, starting in sat nav mode and trying to send me to Calais.

But also the car is also randomly applying the emergency brake.

It turns out that it needed a new f533 module, today it went in for that and now my infotainment system is locked in a boot loop, won't start, but has offered me the engineering menu and says that it requires my S-pin which I set on my app, but won't offer me the keypad to enter it. It has also shown me a system information screen showing hardware and software as "unknown"

I've also found that the it's clicking away quite happily as if the parking brake is applying & releasing or the gearbox is doing a reset.

So going from no random emergency brake demands and a relatively stable sat nav with an odd glitch to an infotainment system that does nothing,

And the car seems to be going into electronic meltdown, there's going to be a couple of bricks put under the front wheels to make sure that it doesn't roll anywhere.

I think that I may well be changing my car sooner rather than later, because a garage giving me a car back in this state isn't acceptable.

Welcome to the Skoda world.

Isn't it under warranty? I would call Skoda Assist and make them tow the car. As well as claim replacement car until all is sorted.

Skoda CS have been advised and I suspect that the car will be towed away, but I think that I will take it somewhere else as Lookers haven't been able to fix it after 5 attempts.

Lookers also tried to give me a hire car in the form of a large transporter van.

Nailed it in the first sentence.

Not had as many big issues as lots of other forum users on here seem to have but honestly I’ll never have another Skoda. It’s like they’ve tried to ram the cars full of technology that they’ve not tested properly and it just doesn’t work. Please go back to basics and make cars that actually just ****ing work properly

Nope, it's not an exclusive Skoda thing. If you were to randomly read forums relating to any brand (including other VAG marques), you'll find such gremlins beset many if not most current makes, they're all stacked with similar electronics.

If only my local Dacia dealership wasn't a branch of Arnold Shark...

Having issues with electronics is one thing. Having workshops releasing car which obviously does not work is another. And frankly, apart of VAG I haven't heard many of such stories, while for Skoda it is the norm and I had to deal with it myself multiple times. I could understand if they had a test run and all was fine, and issue arose later. But myself I had to come to puck up my car just to discover it does not work right still in the workshop.

Were the connectors a result of the accident damage repair? Disconnected at the time and not reconnected? Sounds like a total cluster.

I’m also confused about your insurers part here? How are you claiming that back?

The Ferrari driver is to blame for overtaking when there was a Skoda wanting to do the same, or is it just the Repairer, it is not Skoda though.

Well the car released the parking brake yesterday whilst parked outside of the accountants office as well.

When it was home is sounded like the parking brake was applying & releasing, as well as similar to operating the gear switch!

Then showed 2 to say there were updates, the screen went blank, came back in Engineering mode where it offers you updates of software, FEC etc, I turned it off, it then showed me the Engineering Menu that's used for firmware updates and then went blank, it then went back to loading settings and telling me to enter my S-PIN next time the system starts!

Just re the above - my mum was involved in an accident recently and had the same issue - an untaxed driver...   Insurance didn't give a fig and neither did the police...

One of my online vices is watching those police chase videos from around the world.

The UK police will stop someone, ask them for evidence of their tax/insurance/licence whatever, they then make off, get chased by the cops for ages, chase someone for ages, and after they finally bring them to a halt, arrest them and you get the post-mortem, you find they got a paltry fine and a ban on a licence they don't have.

I like the Arkansas State Police. They don't put up with any nonsense and if you make off from them, you're likely to end up upside-down in a tangled wreck, with an angry cop bellowing at you with his gun drawn and pointing at you.

The Brazilian cops are pretty spicy too. You stand a good chance of ending up dead if you make off from them. 😄

My point (FINALLY) is, there seems to be next to no deterrent for scumbags to drive around unlicensed/uninsured/untaxed/un-MOT'd in the UK, as the police really don't seem to think it's a big deal if they didn't catch them in the act.

That's not an issue for either the insurer or the police, nor is it a contributing factor in a crash.

Uninsured, unlicensed, unfit - yes.

Untaxed - that's up to the DVLA.

We'd be happy to take a look at this for you if you don't get anywhere

Except that as an untaxed car it shouldn't actually be being driven on the road...

I know technically you are correct but it's perverse...

Thank you very much.

They took the car back and Skoda Assist bought me back home, however I have not loan car available so, I'm now stuck at home until they fix it!

The issue seems to have stemmed from the new module, because bar the virtual pedal not working & random infotainment system issues the car was in full working order, it wasn't doing weird things like clunking or self releasing the parking brake.

What's odd is the Aircon is working, but the system says it's not!

I can access that the reversing camera is working, but no radio, no Bluetooth, no media access, it threw a wobbler when I pulled my usb music stick out. 🤨

According to the system I've got 575 miles of fuel on board! Really for a petrol RS!

Random  manoeuvring thingy is shown, PDC is not available. If I can access anything then it works in the wrong way so off is on, on is off!

If the cops catch you driving without vehicle tax paid, they may not let you continue your journey.

If you're lucky, they may let you tax it there and then.

If you're unlucky, they may seize your car.

The gearbox software has also been done, the F533 module is now correctly coded, virtual pedal is working correctly and infotainment system is now running 1969.

Good to hear that it's all sorted - any chance you could PM me the dealer name as I was charged £190 last week for diagnostics to be run as I was told that 1969 didn't exist. Perhaps my dealer could contact them to learn something new !

It was Lookers, Peasmarsh, Guildford.

I know that I didn't put it on there, but the system had 2 updates available on the display on Friday, and was going bonkers. Today it was showing 4 updates!

So I was wary about accepting them, but I have and now I 🙏 that it doesn't screw the system up again, I'll have to wait until morning when I go out and see what happens

It's such a shame that it takes a series of strongly worded complaints to Skoda customer service to get anything done & get anywhere with faults like this.

But they're resolved now and I'm very grateful to Skoda customer service for helping with my problems.

So good you’ve got your car back and sorted. A real shame that the Škoda brand is [further] tarnished by shoddy workmanship & attitudes of [some of] their dealers.

Hopefully the OTA updates won’t screw it up again and you confidence & enjoyment in the car returns.

Well that lasted a long time... No virtual pedal again. It has worked 3 times and stopped working again.

Tried new battery in the keys and still doesn't work and it's showing as active in the infotainment system. 🤔
