Hi All,

Ordered vRS back in August but still havent heard a thing about a build date? Is it normal to hear nothing for 2 months? The only extra I added was the royal green paint as DCC would have taken us over the 40k tax bracket in the UK and I was not willing to pay that.

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hello

I'm not from UK and can only comment on my personal experience.

I think the dealership told me 1-2 weeks after I ordered it when the car was going to be built and also more or less when to expect to have it delivered. It took less than 2 months from ordering (end of July) to being built (middle of September) and the dealership gave an accurate build date.

So I would go ahead and contact the dealership to get and update on the delivery time if I were in your position.

I hope you'll get your Octavia RS soon. :)

  • Hello. So here's a couple of screenshots of the instrument cluster (there's also a screen for the navigation but didn't want to take pictures of that, but it's mostly the same option of layouts). Bonu

I ordered a vRS in mid August. It’s race blue and extras are Canton and rear wiper. The dealers were in touch around 10 days ago to advise me that I have been allocated a slot in week 47. Bit close to Christmas/New Year but might be at the dealer mid December, but most likely early January. I’d give your dealer a ring as they should have some information for you.

Same here UK dealer can only tell me order was accepted but no build date or expected delivery.I did spec a few options though.

 almost the same as me

I ordered around the same time in august, velvet red, rear wiper and canton, mine is build week 46

but only got told build week around 10th october

I would guess they got quite a few orders in as they were running that good deposit contribution..

also, seen a few cars now with the aero inserts removed and its 100% confirmed my thoughts that they look loads better without it

Hi All

This is a question for UK buyers of the 4.5 vrs estate. I was very concerned about not suffering the increased VED payment of £600 (£190 if below) if your car exceeds the 40k  list price (£39775 plus £390 for paint). My dealer said that adding one of the exclusive paints to the price would not push me over the limit as you take the registration and delivery off the list price meaning that it would not exceed the 40k threshold.

Has anybody else been told this or are they pulling a fast one on me, and after a year I am going to be faced with paying £600 per year?

Cheers

PS still no build date

The "expensive vehicle tax" is based on the cars "list price" and from the UK Gov website;

The list price is the published price of the vehicle before it’s registered for the first time. It’s the price before any discounts are applied.

A bit more info ... my understanding is that VED rates are set by the published P11D value of the vehicle. So the Recommended OTR price of £39,775 has a P11D value of £39,040 (plus any options).

So,

News on my  VRS build is that it is delayed till February 2025 at the earliest. Have a guess why? It was ordered back in August and had one extra added the Royal Green Metallic paint, nothing else.

Aww man, that sucks. Any indication that it's the green paint that's the delay, or just "sorry, it's delayed"

Correct they have supply issues with the paint! Which seems a little hard to believe. So I have cancelled the order as the risk for me is that it would get delayed even further and I would run into the new tax year and have to pay double road tax with the new laws coming into force.

Hello :)

Is the wireless charging pad air cooled/vented now? Do you find it still overheats at all especially on a sunny day? If you have any pictures you can share that'd be awesome!

Thank you!

Hello

Yes, it seems to be air cooled. It does have holes where cooler air seems to come out of (circled red in the picture) and all the brochures also point that out.

It's quite cool weather here already (10 C) but I can definitely say that the wireless charging pad works much better on the facelift. The charging starts faster, is faster and doesn't randomly stop charging. I'm happy.

That sucks! 😞

Hi Arturp, I've got a couple of questions if you don't mind.

Firstly, what do you think of the soundaktor engine noise generator on the FL? On my MK4 I found it far too loud, and it actually caused an awful rattle from the dashboard until I turned it down using OBDEleven, but currently there is no support for the FL with it using SFD2 😞

Secondly, is there an option of the virtual dash to display the gearbox temperature like there is on the MK4?

Cheers 👍🏼

Hello, I don't mind.

Firstly, it seems that I may have missed a very important piece of information. But I have really good news, the vRS FL doesn't have the fake engine sound generator, it's all natural. It's confirmed by several reviews (and comments) on youtube. And as additional confirmation, compared to the mk4 manual, it's not listed under fuse no. 59 and there's no option to disable it in the "Individual" drive mode. In short, that's something I noticed quite early and did lead me to believe that the engine sound generator was now either missing or tuned really well but it's the first.

Secondly, the only temperatures the virtual dash is able to display is coolant and oil temperatures. But I think it was the same for mk4 as well, at least I didn't see or wasn't aware of the option to see gearbox temperature anywhere (by default at least, maybe it's something you can enable with OBDEleven?).

Gearbox temperature is an option in my '24 plate vRS. I may have had to select it as a displayable item, but it was readily available.

Hmm that's interesting, as it's listed in the UK brochure 😞

The gearbox temp was nice to have I thought, more valuable then the coolant temp with is always shown with the bars on the left of the dash, so that's a bit of a shame.

Thanks for the response though 😊👍🏼

Aha, yeah, I remember now!

In the new virtual cockpit, you can scroll through several displayable items but I've not actually found where I can configure what items to display (eg select also gearbox temperature), it's a static selection/list.

Interesting that it's listed in the UK brochure. Perhaps it's somewhat different for the UK or the brochure is just wrong?

Here's a comment thread from one of the reviews on youtube and apparently the one confirming this was someone directly involved with the Octavia facelift project.

Well, this is encouraging, and his name checks out on LinkedIn!

Good bit of detective work 🕵️

So here are some quick comments to add to artery's great initial review. I got the car 4 days ago and it is great. Still have not pushed the power given the burn-in time but it still feels very quick. But in a much more refined way than the Mk5 GTI it is replacing.

The large screen is really nice, and doesn't dazzle at night like I was worried it would. Only downside of it is that I have to stretch a little to reach the far side of it.

There is no "fake engine" generator, this is Ireland model so right hand drive.

This is an option in the menus to disable the wireless charging, I think there was a topic on older models with hardware solutions for that.

Any engine overrun bubble or crackle with the new VRS ?

I've not had time to do a video myself but now that the break-in period is over and first oil change is also done, I've been pushing the car more (and in sports mode). There's definitely some pops when going off throttle in sports mode (and you can hear them inside the car).

Someone also posted a video of launching their Octavia RS. You can definitely here some pops as they launch and right before the video ends.

Thanks for your feedback and that video.

As the flappy paddles on the Octavia are quite underwhelming in many ways (small and plastic), I thought I should upgrade them.

So I bought paddles from aliexpress for 18 euros (also might have gotten my credit card information stolen in the process and later used but that was resolved, fortunately).

But the paddles were at least delivered to me. They are type of paddles that you just stick to the original flappy paddles using a double sided tape.

To be honest, they actually look pretty good in black and also feel like they are properly attached (even when just using a double sided tape) and pretty solid, also when pulling the paddles. There's no squishy/mushy feeling to them.

One downside though, the gap between the cruise control lever and the new paddle is rather small (see picture below). Might be a bit annoying to use when you have thicker fingers (just about okay for my fingers).
