Aux lightbar highbeam trigger

Featured Replies

Hello!

I have a Skoda Superb mk3 with the adaptive/dynamic highbeam headlights.

The ones that "draws" a black box around other cars.

What are my options for triggering a auxiliary light bar?

I can of course just add a button inside the car but I would like yo have it integrated with the normal highbeam.

Is it possible to program a output somewhere that is high when highbeams are on and no car is detected and goes low as soon as I turn of highbeams or a car is detected?

I'd imagine you'd need some kind of CANbus interface relay. Then you need to determine the control signal you wish to use to activate the LightBar

An example

Oh for the long ago days of my youth when a couple of Cibie’s could be bolted on and easily wired through a mechanical relay…….

@MrPekka - I can't guarantee it will work, but u can try splicing into Pin #11 of the headlight connector plug.

That one is for the high beam - xenon shutter signal.

@MrPekka easy option: Linear-18 Elite with I-LBA, but expensive, or XBB Power unit, or via Canbus and CANM8 connect.

Everyone is making this overly complicated.

In the 09 BCM module set up a new Leuchte pin to do what you require, then pin this out from the BCM to a relay to control the light bar.

That's the method I did to connect my additional DRL light strip, but I was sharing the easier "least complicated" method which doesn't involve tapping into the BCM and running a wire through the firewall to get into the engine bay, and doesn't involve coding of a Leuchte channel.

JR, wouldn't splicing and add another consumer to that line throw some error code because of the extra load? I had this happening on another car and I am wary ... I also would like to add a light bar, I am happy with the standard lights but I also have long dark non-marked roads ...

potentially, especially something like an auxiliary lighting system, hence i why i initially said "no guarantee".

when i added the DRL light bar on my Superb, i did the test with a wiring harness to tap into the DRL signal, and low beam signal, and was able to do it successfully without any errors thrown.  most likely because the DRL light bar consumed very little power.

however, because i wanted my DRL light bar to act (dim and brighten) like factory DRLs, i did the complicated BCM method.  u can read about it here.

in theory, u could use Pin 11 from the headlight connector to trigger a relay, which will turn on an auxiliary light that is powered separately, and not through the same pin, thus not increasing the load.
