Fog Lights on in Auto Mode

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me figure out why my fogs are on in auto mode when it daylight but then they are not on when the headlights activate? I have made sure I haven't put them on manually (which I think you can only do when not in auto mode anyway?

I'm confused, please help me out here 😎

Is it Front Fog Lights.  Or are they maybe DRL's / Daytime / Daylight Running Lights?

Front fogs only, as far as I am aware. Not DRL's

This may be the DRL'S didn't realise they were next to the fogs and look just like fogs!!

Mine do this occasionally too. Weird.

They are the DRL. There are 2 bulbs in the housing.

Mine are not DRL, MY DRL's are next to main headlight unit and are LED.

My fogs also (I do know what footlights are)  come on occasionally on their own as described by the op.

That makes more sense I suppose but I'm not sure why Skoda chose to use DRL'S that look like you are just driving around with fog lights on.

I'm going to swap both the fogs and DRL'S for a brighter WHITE bulbs as per what I bought for the fogs (not LED)

I had a 2009 superb, with a single bulb in the foglamp. The default DRL behaviour was to turn the xenon lights on. I used Carista ODB paid feature to program the fog lights at 40% brightness to act as DRLs. When the xenons came on, the fog lights (DRL) would be switched off.

Pre-facelift cars have DRLs down low, in the same light clusters as the fog lights. Neither are LEDs as standard, although I have successfully replaced the DRL bulbs with canbus-compatible LEDs, which look much better than the yellow halogens. I’ve also tried replacing the fogs (which also operate singly when the steering wheel turns or when indicating), but without success: either the ones I bought weren’t truly canbus-compatible, or I suspect they fade on and dim off by varying the voltage and the LED bulbs don’t work properly when dimmed - they raise a bulb fault.

On facelift cars, the DRLs are LEDs that are integrated with the headlight units. The facelift was around late 2012 or early 2013 I believe.

It sounds like the OP is confusing the DRLs on a pre-facelift car. They come on when the headlights are off, and extinguish when the headlights are on, either manually or in auto.

I have a 63 plate.

… which might be pre-facelift or facelift. It could have been manufactured in early 13 and then registered months later.

Can you post a picture?

63 plate is the earliest reg for FL cars.  My 63 plate car registered late November 2013 is a FL but have seen other 63 plate cars that are pre-FL, I guess old stock registered on new plate. If that's your car in profile picture it looks very much like a pre-FL car which would explain the apparent behaviour of fog lights.

I will take a pic but maybe a Pre facelift as don't have the slightly revised headlights.
