Yeti's rear wiper activating and staying on while trunk is open

Featured Replies

I recently got a Skoda Yeti, 2013 1.6 TDI model, and have encountered one small gremlin which happens when I open up the trunk, the rear wiper at times will decide to activate, and stay on until the trunk is closed, I am curious if anyone has encountered a similar issue and what the solution to it was.

Likely to be damaged wiring between the body and the hatch (in the bellows,) worth checking out.

Hope it helps🙂

I will check it out, and post an update aswell.

Sounds like a wiring fault (a wire is grounding out when you lift the tailgate) as it is the grounds that are "switched" by the BCU.

I wouldn't know where to start looking as I haven't seen a Yeti in person, but would hazard a guess that it's somewhere in or near the rubber grommet / tube (where the wires, wash wipe tube passes through)

I'm sure more enlightened forum members will be along shortly to offer assistance 🙂

After faffing around with it a bit more, I am more and more certain it might be a wire in the bellows, because it only activates at a certain angle when the trunk is open, the second it goes close to that point it activates
Thank you all kindly for the quick responses

I keep repeating what I did to locate a broken wire the first time, maybe on a 1978 Ford Fiesta, manipulate the rubber bellows between two fingers, typically, a broken cable will not remain "flat" at the broken ends, ie it will "turn up" a bit due to getting distorted by the repeated opening on the rear hatch - so if you are lucky you should feel this through the rubber bellows - either way, when you open up the hatch and the roof lining, you should be able to pull a wire back, make sure that when you splice in an extra length of wire to repair this, one join remains within the car body side of this bellows area and the other end remains within the hatch area - so that further flexing does not damage your repair at the joining points.

For anyone lurking around the forums and looking for solutions;

I have fixed the issue, the wiring loom has been damaged in the rubber grommet that feeds the wires from the body to the boot lid, I purchased a new harness for the rear boot from http://skoda-parts.com/ , you can add your cars VIN number so it displays which parts are fitting on your vehicle and which are not.

For anyone undertaking this on their own, it's a relatively finnecky job, but it's not as difficult if you just take your time, we put rope at the ends of the old harness so we could fish out the new harness connectors so we don't have to dig around through the boot lid, and the plastic trims that you have to remove were a bit annoying due to the metal clips but are a lot easier to take off than put back on.
