I have a few problems with a new car that the dealership cannot solve.

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am new to this community and a relatively new owner of a Skoda Kamiq. I purchased the car in May 2024 with a 1 litre engine, petrol. I have encountered a few problems which I have been battling with the dealership about, but the problems have not gone away. It's temporarily sorted out, but after a little while it's coming up again.

First problem:

When the car is coasting or slowing down to speeds of 10-30 km/h, there is a low scraping sound, not constant, but rare. It occurs at various times and I cannot find a moment to replicate it. Since it cannot be replicated, it cannot be shown to the Delegation. I attach a video with the sound, do you have any idea what the problem might be? I also sent them a video, but they were unable to identify the problem. My initial guess is that it's like the brakes are letting up, as if the hill control is activated.

Second problem:

A recurring issue is that the dashboard lights up with a message that the turn signal has burnt out. There is a bug and when the turn signal is displayed, the turn signal flashes frequently, so that it indicates that it is not working. However, after checking the turn signals externally, everything works properly. This is repeated with both left and right turns. Various control units have already been replaced, but the problem is resolved temporarily. Maybe someone has experienced a similar problem?

The third problem, maybe more of a question, is whether it is possible to update the traffic sign recognition system map on your own, because it constantly recognizes signs that are not there, that have changed. It seems to get the signs from the GPS, but I have not been able to find how to update or disable it. I understand how to disable the sign recognition system in general, but I don't really want to disable it completely. Is it necessary to contact a service/dealership for this?

I can tell you a little bit.

The traffic sign recognition are supposed to be by the camera but it's been clear for a long time that some of the data is also in the maps database.

The fault with the turn signals is due to a can-bus error possibly due to a poor ground somewhere.

I recently contacted Skoda re the failure of the speed limit detection system to respond to speed limit signs in my area. You pass two very obvious 30 mph signs and the system does not react for at least 1/2 mile after the signs. Skoda said must be a fault in my car which may be a warranty issue ( really car only 9 month old). I then pointed out that my neighbours also have Skodas (2 Karoqs and another Kamiq) and they behave in the same way. It is a flaw in their system. Waze and Google all respond correctly

The speed limit recognition is not perfect. Over the years in our VAG cars we have seen:

Improbable speed limits displayed (100mph) in an area where there were no signs at all (road was national speed limit.)

Failure of the camera to correctly recognise a speed limit sign.

Failure of the car to notice it was now on a motorway for anything up to a quarter mile.

Incorrect speed limit displayed not corresponding to the signs.

Overall I think the system is still pretty good.

You can download the maps from here: https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-US Just enter your VIN. Then transfer everything to a USB C memory stick and connect it. There will be no signals from the infotainment system, but drive for a while and the database will update (this works even if you don't have Skoda's own navigation option).

There is also an option in the MySkoda app to purchase updates. It is not a large amount, but you can do the same thing for free with this procedure.

Please note: some updates and software configurations are country specific.

for the MY 24 and MY25, the Kamiq FL has traffic sign recognition, WITHOUT navigation system.

It is based on GPS and internet data from OCU unit.

I don't want to be a killjoy but Skoda themselves say that the primary way the speed limit is shown is by the forward facing camera in the car seeing the speed limit signs.

I fully agree that the car seems to be able to make use of other data to show the speed limit. I've always assumed this was embedded in the map data given the speed with which it's able to make changes. I have doubts that it's done via real time tracking of position and sending signal to the car via the OCU. I am happy to be corrected if you can point to an authoritative VAG article.

It's not through the OCU but the GPS-map database. Even if you don't have navigation, you can download the maps from the link I sent you in previous messages and update it. You can also purchase the Online Update for Intelligent Speed Assist from the Skoda Connect store, with a one-year subscription, which updates it automatically.

This is almost exactly what I said, I assume you meant to reply to the previous poster in this thread.
