How to: Travel Assist and Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit

Featured Replies

With a lot of information already available on the forum about travel assist retrofit but nothing about heated steering wheel for our mk4 i decided to post my way of retrofiting both of them along with a video of showing how to do it along with the codings

For this retrofit to be able to work on your car you need to have already ACC and Lane Assist
For some modules will need SFD unlocking to be able to do the codings

Parts Requirement

-5E3419093AT heated steering wheel with travel assist button

-Heated Cable adapter for the combination switch

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003791804873.html

-5Q1953507GF COMBINATION SWITCH

For travel assist:

20103 security code

Select Driver Assistance A5

- Select Long coding

- Select KLR

- Set to Coded

- Select Point of intervention

- Set to Early

- Select HC Warn Intensity

- Set to Setting_over_menu

- Select HC variante

- Set to Variante_2

Select Adaptive cruise control 13

- Select Long coding

- Select Capacitive_steering_wheel

- Set to Installed

- Select Travel Assist

- Set to Activated

Select Gateway 19

- Select Adaptation

- Select Specified installation of sub-bus users

- Select Control module for sterring whell touch reconition

- Set to Yes

Select CU44

- Select Long coding

- Select Lane Assistance

- Set to ACTIVE

For Heated steering wheel:

Select Gateway 19

- Select Adaptation

- Select Multi-function steering wheel control module-Steering wheel heating button

- Set to Active

Select Air conditioning 08

- Select Adaptation

- Select Steering wheel heating

- Set to short_push

- Select Long coding

- Select Heated steering wheel and heated steering wheel automatic mode

- Set to Installed

As well i will post a link with the KLR module from aliexpress that make the take over steering message to disapear and the car to drive without your hands on the wheel unlimited time (not recommended)
The KLR module is sitting on the bottom of the steering wheel and is quite easy to swap the boards

Why not the edited data set? I consider the module questionable; it actively interferes with the vehicle's communication... Why are you replacing the steering column switch? The control unit alone would be sufficient... You don't even address the wiring.

I couldn't find any editing available about data set. When you say module you mean the KLR module right? is optional ,they are some people who using it

Actually i didn't know that control unit alone would be enough,i though they a single unit 🫠

I quess about the wiring is not to much to say cause the adapter is mostly plug and play and + and ground are addressed at the end of the video

Don't get me wrong, but something like this simply has to be in the manual. Regarding coding, the instructions always include byte and bit information. Using these information is OBD11-bound.

you right bro

If we'd like to add the coding for the steering wheel heating:

Control unit 08---> Coding ---> Heated_steering_wheel_and_Heated_steering_wheel_automatic_mode

Set To Active

Hi, I was replacing in my Octavia only unit 5q1593 549 from D to F to activate heating. After replacment I got several errors even after coding heated steering wheel . (mainly ACC stop working) Before I installed steering wheel with capacitive sensors and activated TA function, no any errors and malfunctions after first part of retrofit.

5q1593 549F I bought probably from Cupra Leon. It that mean I have upload dataset from Octavia like V03935426TC ?

After restoring the wiring and module there are no errors. I have 2 modules with letter F, both gernerating different errors, second is probably from Golf. Look like they have differnt configuration inside. Probably only 5Q1953507GF dedicated to O4 kombi will fit without reprogramming.

You Code the New one?

You Change the wire by the Connect

Edited by Cairus

No, I still thinking how to do it. I can't connect to 5Q1953507GF or 5Q1953507GD. It is subsystem under 09 module. I was connecting via VCTool but is grey... On stock server I found data set for that module, but I never flashed subsystes. A little bit scare to damage 09. Any advice how to do it ? image.png

Do you have an adapter for the wiring or are you changing the connector directly? The control unit without heating is wired differently than a module with heating.

No I have no adapter, I ordered new 14 pin connector . I was checking 2 times if pins are in right slots. Heating was working with new module

You dont Check the wire with the Plan?

I have access to Elsa, I also checked other threads where is picture of connector. It is exactly the sameimage.png

OK...

With heating

LIN>vi/gn>T14e Pin 5

LIN 2> vi > T14e Pin 12

Looks good.

Pin 6 ist correct? Looks Like Other als 5&4

here is with orginal module:

Ist the Unit OEM or AliExpress?

OEM, used module. Production 08 2023. HW and SW he same like orginal.

Which manufacturer do the steering column switches or the winding spring come from?

It was disassembled from 5Q1 953 507 GA. Probably if slipper 5Q159354F comes from 5Q1 953 507 GF will work without problems. GA have different ACC switch so that mean 5Q159354F have different configuration inside. I found that some different software are available, by paying 30 eur I can download GF software. So far I have no idea how to upload that without any damage. I uploaded some datasets into 1 level ECU several times, but this is subsystem. That the reason why I asking if someone have some experience on that.

I wouldn't pay €30 for it. What file or data set do you want?
