what should I do

Featured Replies

Lads, I don't know what to do. I bought a used Octavia MK3 facelift with 2l TSI EA888 engine with 4 wheel drive BUT after 100 miles I got EPC and engine management lights along with stop/start error..... Do I get a refund or get it repaired and stick with it????

Error Log say what?

Haven't got a reader mate so don't know.

How do you expect to get serious help/information here?

Sorry, don't know... Just having a moment I guess. Worried that I've put a lot of money to a car that's going to give me grief.

Your profile currently says 2015 1.4TSI - It may help if you post the year of your new vehicle (I assume post 2017?) - and the engine code.

Either get the DTCs read, or obtain an OBD reader.

All of that aside, the car you are describing doesn't exist. No 2.0 EA888.3 came with Haldex. There was a 1.8 EA888 that was AWD (pretty rare AFAIK) but that was a PFL model only anyway.

Not to be unhelpful, but I do agree with the above. You need to be able to see what codes have been thrown, otherwise we can't help you. an EPC/EML can be anything!

You can likely get OBD11 delivered tomorrow if you buy it now on Amazon.

MOT check says cylinder size of 1984cc. How do I find out what it actually is please?

There was a 2.0l 4x4 it came out towards the end of the MK3 model run. If I'd waited 6 months I would've had one

The engine code is the 3 or 4 character prefix to the engine number - can be found on the V5 document and is also normally listed on the B pillar label.

Engine number is DKZA050876

Thanks, so you have engine code DKZA.

That's a start, suggest that your next action is to get any recorded DTCs read.

Well I never! I knew they did a 190ps 2.0 but didn’t think it was an AWD model.

Somewhere out there, there’s one of those pushing 500bhp and shocking every RS3 it sees.

I doubt you'll get a refund but repair should be fine.

Might be a simple fix.

Is this the first problem you have had with it?

If so, one issue isn't really giving you grief. Id just get the mob that sold it to you to repair under warranty and go on living your life.

Maybe after 3 or 4 failures you could say it's giving you grief

Independent. I'm in the 30 days right to reject. The dealer has offered to put right any repairs free of charge and offer 12 month warranty up to 2k

Well, the gen 3 ea888 are generally well regarded but that's not to say they never ever ever fail in a serious way or ever need repairs.....

Your concern is genuine. As the car has been traded and sold on to you and within short time shows a eml and fault..

Is it bad luck, did the last owner trade it due to the issue.... all unknowns.

It really depends if the faultl is easily resolved permanently or if there is a nasty deeper level cause that lingers.

Misfires easy solutions tend to be plugs, coli packs, more expensive injectors, very expensive valves or piston rings...

30 days is a statutory return period. You also have 6 months statutory protection edit; for repair, with the selling dealer if they are still trading, that presumes faults in first 6 months existed from the start....regardless of any third party insurance warranty document.

If you can get it repaired by the dealer within 30 days and it gives you enough time to try and drive fault free for a little while before the 30 day expiry that would be ideal. But may not be possible....

Hopefully the fault will just be failing plugs or coil pack/s.

Allow them an attempt to rectify the fault, then see how it is.

Insist they give you full details of the cause of the fault and what was done to rectify it.

They've replaced 2 coil packs and spark plugs, getting it back soon....
