Locking fuel cap

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know whether or not there's a lockable fuel cap which will fit the Octavia 4? (2020, 1.5 TSI manual)

Have performed a couple of searches in the usual places but can't seem to locate anything definite.... 🤔

Why go you want a Lockable fuel cap, when there is one all ready on the car !

Pretty sure my petrol has been getting siphoned overnight, even with the lockable filter door...

Are there signs someone has forced the filler door? Seems weird to me...

You should also check if the twist cap has been properly tightened as petrol could evaporate if the cap is not fully turned home.

The Scottish way of stealing fuel.

Put a hole in the bottom of the fuel tank.

Nope, but I've been filling up far too regularly for the amount of miles I'm travelling. Nothing wrong with MPG figures

I'm pretty sure that there's an anti-syphon trap fitted to the filler to these vehicles - should not be possible to extract fuel that route.

I'm pretty certain whatever manufacturers put in place to deter thieves, they always find a way around it.

I'd know if I had a leak, and my MPG figures would reflect anything mechanical or likewise I'd have thought.

But I've definitely been losing fuel. And on more than one occasion

Check for a leak in a fuel pipe... I had one once in an old chevette and lost about a quarter of a tank in a few miles

The fuel computer reads the amount of fuel put in tank and adjusts the range currently available by comparing previous use data, you say 'nothing wrong with MPG figures' - have you noticed specific occasions when this range figure has significantly dropped from the last time you drove?

Yes, but I didn't really pay attention at the time. Well I was quizzical, but a little bit bewildered in the daily run of things. It was only when it reoccurred a couple of times did I really start to pay attention. When I went to fuel up last time the trough or whatever where the fuel cap is located (behind the fuel filler door) was soaking wet with fuel, yet I had less than quarter of a tank and hadn't filled up in a fortnight.

If it was a leak, the loss would be consistent, but it's not...

Check the sealing of the fuel cap - you should be able to hear an intake of air (hiss) when you release the cap immediately after a run.

It's not the sealing of the fuel cap which is causing my issue.

So, after 2 days and a half dozen replies yet no suggestions regarding lockable fuel caps, I guess there are none available for the mk4 Octavia.

Which leads me to my next question, does anyone know of an email address I can use to try and reach out to Skoda to discuss this with them..?

Thanks in advance...
