Automatic Skoda Fabia - temperature light staying blue for a good 10 minutes and car not getting into gear straight away

Featured Replies

I have a 2011 Skoda Fabia Auto Estate and I love my car!! Recently its has been showing the blue low temperature light for quite a while after driving. Sometimes still on blue even after my 3 mile commute to work. I have also noticed that when I first start the car you cannot immediatley drive away as when put it into gear and press on the accelerator it just revs but doesn't move as if it's not engaging gears.

I did read this and wondered if it was worth trying - put the key in the ignition. turn but do not start car. Press on accelarator pedal for 30 seconds. keeo foot on pedal and turn igntion off. Then wait 3 minutes and start car. Apparently this resets something.

Any advice would be most appreciated - not technically minded as you can possibly tell.

Hi, the two issues may be related or not. The 3 mile drive may be very short for proper full warm up of the engine oil at least (this is different to the coolant temperature blue light) but it depends on how long and what sort of drive that 3 miles entails. Short journeys like that if done regularly and frequently are not best for many parts of the car.

I'm not sure what that procedure is for so I wouldn't bother with it for now at least.

You are best looking at and asking in the Fabia Mk2 forum as there will be lots of knowledgeable member there on your model and gearbox. More information may be required but you could start with just repeating your post.

HTH. Good luck. 'Skoda Fabia Mk2 (2007-2014)' forum. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/113-skoda-fabia-mk2-2007-2014/

A mod can maybe move to the Fabia Mk2 section where the other post is. ? Did you have the car last winter when cold? What engine does the Fabia have? I take it you have a 7 speed twin clutch DSG, a DQ200. How many miles has the car done? There might well be an issue with the DSG. Or, is it a late registered 1.6 petrol with a Tiptronic Automatic box?

I thought of reporting to a Mod but then that removes the possibility of reply posts here such as yours, I also wonder which gearbox and engine and actually typed it but decided those in the Mk2 forum and others here would know a lot more about it. Plus it means getting into asking lots of other questions, how long in ownership, previous service maintenance, etc., etc.. And of course the issue might be elsewhere.

Being non-technical I can appreciate being in that position and getting over technical answers and questions. The things I would try as a non-technical, but experienced car owner, often seems to upset some of the purist more technical and engineers and their type plus of course the VW "fanboys".

It as said may take longer than 3 miles to get car upto temp especially in colder weather. If it doesnt get up to temp after a longer run I would suspect failing thermostat. Had same on my Octavia. Only reached temp in summer.

The lack of drive when cold may point to low transmission fluid or the transmission fluid is past it. If its red ATF then it should be a nice cherry red colour. If its past it it will look dirty brown. Changed mine on an old auto people carrier and had big improvement in taking off and gear changes. If its a DSG box it may need serviced.
