Help! Can’t change key fob battery.

Featured Replies

Hi,

My car gave me the message that I needed to change the key fob battery but I can’t prise open the case. Has anybody had this problem and have any handy hints? I don’t know what to do now.

TIA.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

If you have the folding type key fob (like penknife) - flip out the key blade, insert a coin or something similar into slot and twist, battery cover will pop out.

It don’t think it’s that type. It looks like this …..

Try this:

Pretty sure even the most useless Sale person or Parts / Service desk staff at any dealership will open the key for you. Just like opening an Oyster really, Just do not slice anything including fingers.

Thank you for the replies - the video is helpful but mine just won’t budge and if I push any further it’s going to break.

Take it to the local auto parts place or watch repair joint.

Im sure they will be able to open

Yours may be glued or something but unlikely

Also found this video where the manual key is used to pry the case rather than a screwdriver.

I have done mine a few times using a screwdriver or the key, it is fiddly and I found shining a strong light inside meant I could see the bit I needed to push and so made it easier then 'feeling' for it
