Rain sensing wipers or not

Featured Replies

We have a Dec’ 23 SEL which I expected to have rain sensing wipers. There were some spec changes between and delivery but no idea if this was one.

The intermittent wipers appear to operate on time and not quantity of rain on the screen. The wipers also give a single wipe on occasions when turned off, most days they don’t do it but some days it is every two or three minutes when it isn’t raining.

I guess there is a fault in the system somewhere but you can bet it will behave properly when the dealer has it!

Anyone any suggestions?

On some models you can set the wiper operation in the infotianment systems so it's timed intermittant rather than rain sensitve.

I've seen the random wiper activation on other Skoda models as being a fault with the wiper stalk.

I occasionally get random wipes of the windscreen, which I think is usually caused by random moisture drops in the air, generally the rain sensing wipers work well. On the wiper stalk i have a toggle switch that alters the sensitivity - I've never altered it.

As Rory says there have been issues reported on numerous Skoda models of 'unexpected' wiper activity. We've had it twice on our Fabia, first time they just started working and wouldn't switch off unless the ignition was turned off, second time in the off position they were working intermittently but at a totally different frequency to the actual intermittent setting, so that intermittent, slow and fast settings all worked perfectly but the Off was doing an intermittent sweep. Boith these faults I'm told requires a new wiper stalk, but both faults stopped of their own accord before thay could be analysed.

Tried the other setting and the longest interval between wipes in slight drizzle is way too short. Dealer visit coming up.

If a slight drizzle I just use the flick wipe, if that's the correct term. Any setting in those circumstances doesn't do it for me.

None of the VW Group cars we've had have ever had "set and forget" rain-sensitve auto-wipers and our Karoq is the same - yet years ago I had a Peugeot 406 and they just worked perfectly and they didn't have adjustable sensitivity.
