Petrol tank evap filter replacement

Featured Replies

Has anyone had to change the evap filter that connects to the petrol tank on a mk3 fabia estate.

Need to change mine as the fault code shows it's failed due to over filling the tank.

I've got the replacement but just wondering how difficult it is to remove the wheel arch liner before the filter can be reached

On my sons MK1 its just a case of undoing the torx screws (cant remember how many but there are a few) then it may need a bit of bending/wiggling and it should come out. If yours has an undertray it may be attached to it as well. Keep an eye for any screws you may have missed. Some will go into plastic grommets in body but the lower ones may have spring clips they screw into. They can get dislodged so make sure they are all back in the right positions before refitting.

Did this job on our Fabia estate last summer

Jack up drivers side rear wheel and remove wheel - use axle stands or chocks to support as you will be working in the wheel arch

Wheel arch liner is held on with 8 or so small torx screws - remove the upper ones first and the lowest ones last as its easier that way - it takes a bit of wriggling to remove but its easy enough

The evap filter is held in by one bolt at the bottom - remove this and then slide it down the bracket that holds the top part in place and then remove the clips holding the two pipes in place

Refit pipes to new one then refit it into bracket and replace bolt

Refitting liner can be a bit awkward but goes back ok with a bit of wriggling

Took me around 45 minutes to do without rushing - best of luck

There's 10 torx head screws altogether got it replaced (pita getting the pipes off the old one) then cleared the code no problems since and went through it's mot with just an advisory on the brake pads and disks
