Alarm issue

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2012 octavia estate and over the last week the alarm has been going off intermittently. Last night it was 3am which woke my kids, myself and didn't endear me to the neighbours. I have engaged the button on the internal column but it still went off last night. I'll be honest recently I've had some expensive repair bills at home and can't afford to call my mechanic. Is there a fuse for the alarm I can remove to stop it going off, without it affecting anything else on the car? I've already changed the key fob battery and the car battery is only a year old

Well you are lucky in that the alarm has lasted over two years longer than mine which is the same age and model. The alarms will get more frequent and eventually the unit will have to be replaced.

I never tried removing the alarm fuse but it is fuse 35 in the fusebox at the end of the dash. See page 213 in your handbook.

Hi

Just press the key lock boutton twice on your remote when you go to lock the car, this will turn off the dead locks and enable people to get out or in easy.

Try it with window open!

Thanks for the reply, I'm struggling to find the part number for a second hand siren alarm, can you help at all? Plenty on ebay but when I message them they don't know if it's the correct poart

There are many second hand alarms on ebay that have been taken off cars and I would not trust.

Yes, the genuine part is expensive but one supplied and fitted by a Skoda garage (including a new bracket and fastners and VAT) came to a total of £204.59

The alarm unit fitted was 1K0951605F

Have you read the "sticky" page on alarms above the threads?

Thank you, just had to find 2.5k for a boiler so even 200 is out of my pocket for a bit. No I haven't seen the sticky page, but I'll try and find it

Just to add I checked the battery tonight and it's resting at 11 volts!!

At 11 volts, your battery is less than 10% SOC!

This will probably be the cause of your random alarm activations.

What is the alternator output when the engine is running?

13 volts as soon as the engine turned

The alarm problem is due to the battery inside the alarm unit reaching end of life. This can also cause it to leak corrossive liquid that destroys the printed circuit board eventually.

If the main battery is low at only 11 volts then it cannot fully charge the alarm battery which will hasten its demise. However, having got to the stage of having multiple false alrms during the night, I doubt very much if having a even a new main battery will make the alarm problem go away.

Are you able to get a code reader on the car? I'm not sure what sort of dashboard indications you'll get on a Mk2 (my 3.5 dash was like an Xmas tree when my battery was on life support), but lots of modules usually log low voltage DTC's. If you can't get it done at a garage and buying one isn't an option, you might be able to find someone kind on here that can help.

This should hopefully be a way of finding out if you need a battery charger, or if the internal alarm battery is dying. That said, 11V is rather low. I'd get it on a charger ASAP - especially in the cold weather and with the alarm going off.

Your starter battery is almost certainly faulty, if, as you say it is only 1 year old and you have checked the battery terminals for tightness, I suggest having the battery tested to confirm condition and claiming for replacement on warranty.

NB. failing battery resulting in very low voltages CAN cause the alarm to trigger - this is a protection against the alarm being disabled by disconnecting the vehicles battery while the alarm is armed.

I have a couple of old cars waiting for either repair or spares. I normally keep batteries charged in them for moving them about but if I forget and they get low the alarms start going off. On one the siren goes off but on the other its just flashing lights. either the siren has failed or its been disabled some how. There may be a way to cut siren until you get it fixed. Found battery replacement on here as long as the circuit board isnt damaged. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/458298-alarm-siren-battery-replacement/
