My late 2020 can do neither, nor get OTA updates. Currently working fine on 1941.

Mine 2020 has remote lock function, but since I had it brought to workshop with comms module related issues before, I guess they updated it back then. Never had O3A8 prompted. Running on 1941 as well and no system updates OTA, only apps updates.

Mine is also a late 2020 (september Manufacture i think) and is on version 1896.. only getting apps update as well.
Is there a way to do a "force" check for OTA updates?

Not that I am aware of. I get app updates that's all.

Question for those who’ve had the OCU of their 2020/21 cars updated to 0144 &/or 0311.

Did that update enable

  1. A route planned in the Škoda App to be sent to the in-car SatNav?

  2. The remote lock and unlock?

My late 2020 can do neither, nor get OTA updates. Currently working fine on 1941.

Thanks.

I have 0144 on a 2020/21 Octavia and no, I can't do either off those things within the app

Last week I bought myself a MY 2023 Skoda Octavia. I just got SOS Emergency Call fault while driving. The fault code was about the small battery in the SOS module. I could not delete the code and restarting the car did not help. Live data showed that the battery was fine. rSoH was 89% and state of charge 86%.

Right after the troubleshooting I noticed that the car was downloading the 03A8 update but it was stuck at 25MB. I went to the grocery store for 5 minutes and after getting back to the car there was no SOS error and the infontainment took a while to download settings. I can no longer find any available updates. SOS module software version is now 0144.

Was that a software issue and not a battery issue? And did the update 03A8 actually fix the issue despite it seemed to be stuck in downloading? Not sure if the 0144 version is actually the newest one. I also wonder if the whole install process actually caused the fault. I mean like the SOS module had to turn off the whole SOS feature while the car updated software. There was also a popping noise right before the fault.

Nevermind, I went back to the car and it started to download 03A8 again. I went for a drive and heard popping noise. The update download was at 20% until it just disappeared. Not sure how to proceed.

I think I read somewhere that because the downloads are quite big they only happen when the car running, pausing when it's parked up. Hopefully yours will resume once driving again.

Yeah, it was weird how the car was downloading the update just fine and then suddenly the whole update disappeared. I managed to install some other infontainment update though. There was no popping noises on test drive but OCU version is still 0144. There are no updates available in the settings.

One stupid question… where do you find the ocu version?

I was able to read it in OCU module info using OBD11.

Yesterday there was some other infotainment update that was installed successfully. No more popping noises or SOS faults so far. The car still wants to download the 03A8 update and I would like to download it too. It just takes so long that it never finishes the download process.

My car is due to go into the dealer to have the OCU updated in the next few weeks. They put me on 1941 a couple of years ago, and I never received any further infotainment updates. Similarly, since they put me on 1985, it hasn't ever prompted to install 1989, or for the OCU update to 0311 that this forum thread is discussing.

I've spoken with another forum member who had their OCU update to 0144 a while ago, and they never received any pushes to take their infotainment up from 1985 to 1989.

I'm thinking that maybe Skoda have a database of the capabilities of each vehicle as it left the factory. So even though an OCU maybe updated by a dealer to a newer version, which should enable additional features. It seems in reality this isn't happening.

My guess would be that Skoda's own database would need to be updated to reflect the features available on a specific vehicle after an OCU update, and this isn't happening. This would be one explanation why after an OCU update infotainment updates aren't being pushed, remote lock/unlock and sending destinations via the app to the car are still not available.

I have now successfully updated both infontainment and OCU OTA. Can't remember what version the infontainment is currently at but OCU version is 0311 which should be the newest one. It took over 30 minutes to download the OCU update and another 30 minutes to install. I hope this fixes both popping noises and SOS error.

Thanks for that. Mine is due a service soon-ish; when I book it in I’ll have a chat with the dealer about updates to OCU etc.

Good luck with that conversation. The dealer told me it was an all day job, which didn't make sense to me given the OTA process seems to be around an hour. However, a friend put me in touch with someone who's carried out the OCU update process and they agreed with the dealer:

OCU update is like 3.5 hr flashing process on itself plus online SVM coding after. All day work. defo car need stay at workshop at least one day for this process. mqb models infotairment have possibility to flash ocu over usb it took 10 min. unfortunately golf8 and o4 are mqb-evo platform and no longer possible flash with usb so only with obd and that takes ages

So you'll probably get into a conversation about who's going to pay for tech's time... Let me know how you get on.

You may have more leverage given the message that @SiWaiting translated on his infotainment stating the update needs to be done to ensure correct functioning of the vehicle going forward...

  • 3 weeks later...

It has been couple weeks and no SOS fault since the 0311 OCU update which is great. Today I noticed that the globe icon on the infotainment screen was gray and had a red cross. SOS button on the roof still had green light and GPS worked just fine. After I came back from a shop, the globe icon was white again.

I believe it is pretty common with these cars that they sometimes go into offline mode?

I see the red cross now and again. It must be normal.

Is there any way to install the OCU update myself? Like the mib updates. My car is not under warranty anymore, GPS is not working and the car doesn't do ota updates.
