Genuine or fake filters?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. Could someone please advise whether these filters look genuine or counterfeit based on the photos? I'm mostly concerned about the oil filter - it has quite a strong smell and I thought they used to be yellow rather than brown. It also has some black spots.

Thanks.

I looked to see you are in Estonia. Where did you buy them from, not some trusted trader? Where they a bargain?

I bought them on allegro from a seller with a lot of reviews. 6 filters in total, 2 of each, saved around 60-70 euro. Here in Estonia just one cabin filter costs about 50...

Looks genuine, can’t see people bothering to fake it, it’s not a Rolex.

I think when I opened my diesel fuel filter I smelt it and it did have an odd smell

People fake everything including filter, brake pads, even discs. Not only in China but in the UK / Manchester.

Not really sure how you could tell whether fake or real.

Colors, structure, maybe incorrect fonts etc...

On that basis I don't see a reason to worry.

Hey, have you considered buying from aeromotors website?

When you search for the original part code it provides original parts when available and also alternatives as well.

For example the cabin air filter alternatives produced by mahle for ~10-15€ and by mann for ~12-15€.

Personally I use non-VW branded filters produced by the OEM that supplies them for VW anyway, you save money and don't have to wonder if the parts you got are counterfeit.

VWAG went all eco on the parts packaging. As you can see brown boxes and just plastic on pollen filters. They are not pretty to look at but most likely they get some eco points for doing so.

There were OEM Filters for VW Group manufactured by Mahle in England until 2020/ 2021.
