Auto headlights indicator in display

Featured Replies

How do you tell whether the auto headlights have turned on? If I look down to the switch I can see that the green indicators are lit and often the Android map changes to night time colours.

My old Mk2 Superb had a warning light in the display - is there any indicator in the main display.

Some of the time, the display shows a white headlamp symbol with a A in the centre. That seems to appear randomly as I rarely touch the switch.

Apologies if this has been asked before.

Yeah from memory the headlight main beam icon with the A in the middle means the auto main beam is activated. It just then depends on street lights, signs and other vehicles to whether it turns on full main beam or partial main beam depending on where it thinks there is another vehicle positioned etc

The question is a little ambiguous as I am not sure what do you exactly mean with "whether the auto headlights have turned on".

The automatic headlights feature is basically on every time you start driving and have not specifically made any effort to turn into manual mode to force switch between DRLs and main headlights. I am not exactly sure whether map turning into night mode is reliable indicator if the auto headlights are in DRL or main headlights mode. I think the reliable display of this is in the panel where are the switches you can turn fog lights on there is a light in the "low beam" symbol which turns on exactly when main headlights are on and DRLs are no longer active.

The "headlamp A" symbol is visible if you have activated the automatic matrix high beam function by nudging the blinker stalk forward one time and this symbol can change colour to tell whether this automatic function is in "matrix high beam" or in "low beam" modes by being either blue or white. There was some way this symbol could also indicate forced non-matrix high beam mode but I don't remmber what it was as I never use that.

Thanks, JuSko. You sort of guessed correctly. I'm trying to understand how to tell whether the auto mode has switched the lights from DRL to main headlights in low beam mode. In some conditions, I would want to override it and turn low beam on.

And I appreciate the explanation of the Headlamp A symbol. I need to try it out in the dark!
