Autodoc - avoid!!!

Featured Replies

Just a heads up for anyone thinking to order anything from this company.

If they send you wrong parts from UK you are supposed to return them to Germany and cover postage which is not refundable!!!

There is no phone to call them or email unless they provide you with one and only way to speak to them is via their chat where if you don't reply within 3 minutes another person will take over and then whole chat clears after 3 hours so there is no trace.

About 15 different employees told me different things each.

Plus where i live ( channel islands) local post refused to accept my parcel due it's value ( apparently post only accpts up to £120 worth) so only option i had left was DHL which cost £189 to Germany for set of 4 springs. Bear in mind i paid £233 for springs with postage from UK. And return is fully covered by you and not refundable. So if i did that i would only be getting back £44 ( that's if they deem returned parts eligible for refund)

So just a little warning before you give your hard earned cash to these people 👍🏻

I don't think the parts come from the UK, it's all from mainland Europe as far as I know. They just pretend to be local by using .co.uk web address.

There was a very similar thread - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/540874-superb-3v3-tailgate-struts-beware-autodoc/ - about a week ago, and will continue being more because their pricing is so enticing.

This is correct, I had issues with them when I had the Superb.

What pallavas! Makes me lucky the one order I did make was accurate.

I did order from Spareto last week. Seemed a decent price for a pair of aluminium LCAs at c.£70 each. I needed them quickly so swallowed the £36 delivery and DHL did deliver quickly (although originally said they would deliver after I needed them).

The kick in the balls was the £53 import duty DHL then hit me with. Exceptionally aggressive WhatsApp messaging and threatening early on to go down the credit collection referral. Tad unnecessary on top of it. Will def plan my parts purchasing in future.

While I am no fan of Autodoc, if you know exactly what you want (as opposed to asking Autodoc staff), parts are cheap and of good quality and I have used them several times in the past. The trouble being that "knowing exactly what you want" means down to an exact original manufacturer's part number, not just a Skoda part number. It costs quite a bit more research on internet. Autodoc do have an add on where you pay a bit more and can return unused parts within 6 months with them paying the return shipping, so if you have doubts best to use this service.

For Skoda parts when I want to get exactly what is needed, I have been using a Czech shop skoda-parts.com for many years now. Consistently very good service and parts advice providing both original Skoda parts and good quality alternatives, and when they mess up even a tiny bit, they ship replacements without fuss.

I steer clear of most UK parts shops nowadays, as sadly, the prices seem to be marked up 50%+. For example, a few months ago I have actually bought 2 Lesjofors suspension springs with delivery to the UK at skoda-parts.com for the price of an identical single Lesjofors spring at e.g. GSF and Eurocarparts. HTH

Autodoc have many different businesses online (looking like UK based firms) but the same problems can arise. Look carefully at the delivery times and ask Ai where the business is based if in doubt. I always find out first the correct VW or Skoda part number and make sure I know exactly what the part looks like. This last bit can rule out mistakes which the sellers often make in their listings.

I have had a few minor issues with AD but nothing too bad if you pay for the "safe order", normally a few quid, then returns are free should you need to send stuff back, they just send you a link you print out the label, package it up and drop it off at the post office. Never had any issues in that regard.

The only thing I have complained about it swapping some parts out for cheaper ones due to "availability" and not telling me and also not getting a refund for the difference but they were quick to resolve that issue as well.

As noted above it is crucial to due relevant due diligence on parts and part numbers as I had an issue with the dig bone bush as there are two and I ordered the wrong one and didn't realise until it wouldn't fit in the subframe.

I will note that experiences do seem to vary an awful lot.

Whilst I've not had issues with AutoDoc in terms of delivery and the like I'd reinforce the need to be very careful in terms of due diligence on parts and part numbers. A search on a particular vehicle, or even a particular part number can come up with a lot of 'variations on a theme' so it's important to drill down into the further info that is available on the webseite and to double and triple check that what you want is what you are seeing offered on screen.

My example re the above is with the rear arch liners for my daughter's Citigo - they're what I wanted, look to be suitable and arrived on time, are vastly cheaper than the OE parts but are clearly 'pattern' parts that 'will fit' but that are not an exact copy of the OE part. In my case the difference is that the OE part has the appropriate fitting screw holes already in them making finding the corresponding holes in the chassis and mounting them easier, whereas the ones I ordered don't have the fitting holes and I'll need to do the reverse - find the chassis holes and then drill the liners to suit. That wasn't clear from the website and just makes things slightly more complicated (albeit not bad enough to warrant returning them given the price differential!).

Also I'd suggest a careful check of AutoDoc against other suppliers such as ILLParts - as prices can vary and I found some parts were cheaper at the other suppliers.

I think @MarioVrs has an issue with the fact that the wrong parts have been delivered and now questioning that.

The thing I find is that they give you every part under the sun - even when you've selected a vehicle and that should filter out what you want:

my example was the Superb 280 is 340mm front discs and 310mm rears. All other Superbs (4x4 and FWD) are 312mm front and 300mm rear. Despite the autodoc website knowing I have my car selected, they would list all of the size options. Fine if you know what to look for, but for a layman who wants to buy rear discs and doesn't spot the difference then that's where the issues arise.

That isn't necessarily an Autodoc thing solely - all sellers seem to not be able to differentiate between the 3 different versions of the EA888 engine in the 280 from pre to post FL. But I think this thread is that Autodoc's customer service and ease of return more than offsets any saving over popping down to the local GSF etc.

A heads up for you: did you know that eBay has a guarantee that if parts from their platform don't fit, you can return them FOC?

Yes i did, been shopping on eBay since 2009. Unfortunately at the time these parts were only available from handful of places and Autodoc was way cheaper -lesson learnt

Apparently they opened UK based place in Manchester this year. How true that is I'm not sure. But definitely won't be buying from then again!

Definitely got to watch where you buying from. I'm now! But even then a decent company with good reputation can make mistake but difference is how these companies approach it afterwards... With Autodoc i couldn't believe my eyes. But still nothing beats my experience with ML Performance this year! And i bought loads of stuff from them over the years

That is absolutely correct you've nailed it. It happened twice now with AD, first time with wrong front pads where they send me pads for 312mm disc even though mine are 340mm which i filtered out, checked against chassis number, cross-referenced with oem part number and even spoke to their technical team who told me that particular part was correct which it wasn't. Same thing this time, Eibach themselves confirmed which kit i need based on chassis number and load ratings for each axle. Checked with Autodoc and boom still wrong. Understand everyone can make mistake but it's the resolving approach what makes difference. In this case they failed miserably..

. lesson learnt
