Playstation 3 vs nintendo Wii

Featured Replies

Summed up pretty well in this video LOL

Clicky

:rofl::rofl: Quality :D

i think the WII is going to fall down very badly everywhere other than japan due to that stupid controller. the PS3 will prevail as it will be massively backed by ever big company as Sony bring out nothing but good consoles :)

Im currently ready to bin the xbox for one of the new generation consoles

The 360 doesnt float my boat

So im very interested in the battle between nintendo and sony

I think sony will prevail

that video has just transformed my day from a total p.o.s into bearable.

Thanks Col.

Videogames suck. Try Real Life version 3.4

Chances are i'll end up buying the Wii.. about time someone did something different rather than just rehashing the same old tired stuff and making the graphics better...

Just look at what happened at E3 :)

i can't wait for the next star wars game on the Wii... lightsaber battles like never b4 :D

Oh and that video is spot on

I think they'll both be good. To be honest they're aimed to meet different criteria. The Wii is the sort of thing that if you have a BBQ or something, you'll set it up in the lounge because it'll have some awesome multiplayer games, and it'll just be more fun in a pick up and play way.

The PS3 is for serious gamers who want to be immersed in cutting edge graphics and surround sound, and are quite happy to sit in a room by themselves and work through something like Metal Gear Solid or Gran Turismo.

I'll probably end up getting both lol to go along with my 360.

Oh i'm not saying the PS3 will be bad, and I can't see it failing... I will probably end up getting one just not at launch, mainly cause they're far too expensive. I only got around to buying a PS2 18months ago, but bought a Gamecube at launch.

Wii doesnt have rumble facility as Sony have now copyrighted the technology Nintendo want to use :o

i thought sony had to remove their rumble feature, cos they'd used copyrighted technology that they hadn't licensed..?

the wii controller just seems like a gimmick (virtual boy, anybody?) and that nintendo are being "different" just for the sake of being different (they can't afford to compete with 360/ps3)...if playing videogame tennis is almost as much effort actually playing tennis, why not just go out and play tennis???

The PS3 will almost certainly sell out at christmas as the "must have" buyers get in there early (and then sell them on ebay) , but unless the price drops very quickly afterwards I think it will be a slow seller.

£550 is way more than people in the UK have ever paid for a console (though £299 at the time of the PS1 felt similar) and with games at £50 a time it will simply be out of a lot of people's reach.

Also without a hi-def screen to go with it (a minimum of another £700 or so) you won't necessarily get the benefit of the graphics and the gameplay will be exactly the same sort of thing as we have seen on every console since the PS1.

I see what nintendo are trying to do with the new controller design but I'm not sure how well it will work in practice and the name alone will make it deeply unfashionable. I guarantee that kids who buy one will be picked on for owning the new nintendo p155.

That said , it's the next-gen console that I'm more likely to buy.

I'd much rather have good gameplay than flashy graphics and thats something that nintendo do very well. I'm loving Mario Kart across the net on my new DS Lite and like the sound of playing previous generation nintendo games (even though I own at least one of all their older consoles)

Oh, hark at all you fashion gurus lol. You'd think owning a Skoda that you'd be able to look past the name. So what if its called Wii? It will offer a completely different gaming experience to anything currently available. And the important thing to remember is that the Wii will play just about any Nintendo game ever made! Duck Hunt anyone? Legend of Zelda? Super Mario 1 2 and 3? F-Zero... the list just goes on and on. Its not meant to be direct competition for the PS3 or 360. Nintendo have openly admitted that it doesn't have anywhere near the processing or graphical power of the other two. But then the price of the console will reflect this. I have a feeling that Wii will be very popular. I'm not saying that it will outsell the others, but the price combined with the differentness of the approach to game play will make a big difference.

Oh and from what I've heard the PS3 will be launching at around £425-450. And we will probably only be getting the full blown system over here, rather than the budget one. Prices subject to change though I guess.

Can you honestly , hand on heart , say that you wouldn't have thought twice about buying a Skoda if it was called the Poo instead of Octavia , or the Turd instead of Fabia?

A big part of Nintendo's target market is kids , and they are very conscious of such things.

It depends a lot on how they are priced. I'll probably just play them on the original consoles.

does the wii have loads of different slots on it then to plug all the different carts etc into??

i still don't think it will do particularly well anywhere other than japan where i'm sure some people have named their children nintendo or snes or something.

The back-catalog will either be downloadable.. or via a dvd or whatever format they use... lets face it nintendos ENTIRE back catalog would fit on 1 dvd... 8mbit NES games... lol

If its the right price.. people will buy it, because it brings back good memories... Nintendo is the only remaining console company that have real heritige so they can appeal to a wider audience who probably wouldnt buy a 360 or ps3..

so the Wii isn't back compatable with **** then, just that nitendo are going to release everygame all over again to try and wring some money out of those that bought the games 20 years ago?

being back compatable means that you can your 20 year old cartidge in the current machine not that you can buy the game again

They may have a longer heritage , but there are kids now who have grown up thinking games console = playstation.

Show them a NES or SNES and they'll look at it like some kind of joke , and a long heritage didn't really work out for Sega :D

i'd say at one point sega was pretty much IT in terms of computer games with the maega drive, master system. game gear all along with the amazingly popular and advanced arcade games. where are they now? they only produce software and have input on bit of hardware don't they?

Well I've secum to the hype - I've preordered one from play.com -- although it better be good for the price!!!!

It's going to be interesting to see how the blu-ray works out against HD-DVD

anyone know how much the HD DVD player will be for the 360 ???

The Master system didn't have as good software as the NES , it's only rival at the time.

They peaked with the Megadrive which (in the UK at least) outsold the SNES but when the Saturn was beaten in the performance stakes by the original Playstation they faltered badly.

The Game Gear was technically better than the Gameboy , had a better choice of software than the Lynx , but it ate batteries at a scary rate and that didn't encourage sales.

The dreamcast was an excellent console but it was launched a bit too soon after the playstation's arrival and in this market once you are seen as unfashionable it's very hard to get back to the top.

The Wii is directly backward compatible with gamecube games. It has 4 gamecube controller ports as well as 2 gamecube memory card slots. Also, the fact that you can plug an SD card into it seems to suggest that it may be possible to fill that with downloaded games and run directly from the card. Whether there will be some kind of security system to limit the use of unlicensed downloads remains to be seen. Like others have said, I don't see the price of the console as being the problem, but the price of the actual game downloads. With a back catalogue the size of Nintendos I can't see games selling for a fiver each... Maybe a pack of games, like Super Mario 1, 2, and 3 for 5 pounds, or maybe a pound or two a game. Maybe a fiver for more recent games like Goldeneye, but the price of these downloads will definitely, to my mind anyway, be what makes the console sink or swim.

With regards to the controller, I feel that it will bring a bit more skill back into gaming. With a golf game for example, the quality of your swing will matter far more than it would with an analogue stick. And I'm really looking forward to being able to brandish a lightsaber! To my mind it just opens up a whole new set of possibilities. Fishing games too (not to everyones tastes I know) will be more immersive, as will flight simulators. For those that think it is a gimmick, why has Sony followed suit with the PS3 controller, which is now motion sensitive as well?

it might be motion sensative but that a bonus feature rather than main feature.

the Wii controller is a gimmick that will only work with gimmick games and very few proper games.

if the PS3 controller is motion sensative like the Wii's controller then it should be able to everything like the Wii but also let you play racing/FPS/RTS/platform games due to the fact that its an actual controller aswell as a floaty sausage thingy :)

Yeah, but then you could just use a gamecube controller. You're not limited to just the wand.

There is a cewrtain amount of gimmick I'll agree, but, until you've experience the lunacy of two grown adults sat around huffing and puffing into their DS lites on Mario Kart DS minigames, I'd be a little less cynical. It's tremendous fun, in a epicly childish manner.

Or maybe that's just us.
