Xenon question

Featured Replies

Planning to trade in my 53 plate VRs for a new one, been offered one without xenon, anyone any experience of both type of lights, is xenon really any better??

I didn't rate them on my Fabia but on the Octy they are well worth it.

I rate the xenons very highly. When adjusted properly they are awesome

I love mine to bits. I wouldn't go back to standard.

Weve just bumped the front of the Octy 1, lights are over

I have them and think they're awesome.

Although bear in mind that 99% of people who have them will say get them and everyone else will say they're a waste of money. ;)

Good point, I willl try & be objective

We have/had Xenons on 2 cars, The Superb & the now shortened Octy L&K

The Octy 4x4 has conventional lights but rally bulbs fitted

For average driving the dip on the Xenons is definately better. For High speed driving (the 4x4 is 350 bhp) the rally bulbs give better long distance viewing.

Ive tried the various legal upgrades, philips vision etc in the Octy 4x4 & they are not that good

If I were buying a stock car I would go for the Xenons if you can reosnably afford it, otherwise go std & get some rally bulbs :)

As an aside on the Mk1 Octy Xenons you can fit a Rally bulb for main, best of both worlds.

We are likely to repair the L&K if the Insurance co total it & it will Im afrain have non Xenon lights purely on cost.

If anyone knows where there are any s/hand Octy 1 Xenons PLEASE LET ME KNOW

I'd say go for xenons!

Why are you trading in your car?

Would you be able to revert back to conventional bulbs for a car fitted with Xenon's from the factory? I'm not sure you could. You'd need a new headlight switch and I wouldn't be convinced the wiring is the same.

As a side note on insurance and Xenons, I was previously insured by Admiral, when I got the Octy I phoned them to change the policy and they asked about optional extra's so I began to list them all and they told me that they don't cover Xenon's as a like for like replacement, they would only pay for conventional headlights. Needless to say I am no longer insured with them.

I don't see how they can do that?! The wiring won't be the same, for a start all the connextors/plugs for the bulbs are different.....

That was my argument but they just said that they would only pay out to the value of the conventional replacement and I would have to bear the cost of the upgrade.

Borrocks, I assumed with simple leccy knowledge that they would have the same wiring within the car, ah well thats a few more quid to spend if we straighten it

(the 4x4 is 350 bhp)

Were they willing to put that in writing and is it just on optional extras or standard fit ones too? I'd wager that it was just call operator incompetence ;)

Chris

Possibly right Chris but it was the whole optional extra's thing that pi$$ed me off. They wanted to treat all options, whether factory fit or not, as mods. Forget it and go somewhere else.

Sciencebird Fablon vRS has xenon's - we love them. They give a very sharp beam pattern, but the brightness is something else, just look at the patch in front of a car with conventional bulbs and then one with xenon's.

Main beam is handled by conventional bulbs, it's good too.

Plus you get the headlamp washers. I don't know/can't comment on the standard Fabia's headlights, but when I used to have a Corrado the headlights spent most of their life filthy (it took a few miles after a clean), which didn't help as standard Corrado lamps provided less illumination that 2 birthday cake candles.

TKW I'm trading the car in rather than valet the front seats.........only joking, its 3yrs old, done 45K & I usually swap every 2yrs.

I know the cost of Xenons after a bump, when the VRs was 10 days old a set of gangsters broke into our house, took the keys, & the car, unfortunately they bumped the front corner, the xenons took ages to replace, as it were a relatively new model. Having said that I put a few miles on the Fabia estate the dealer leant me while they were repairing the VRs. In the spec I want, Silver, 6CD, cruise & Xenons, cloth seats its mid to end of Nov delivery. Can have one same spec, no xenons straight away. MOT needed on mine about 2 weeks............

Need to sort out new car,

It depends on wether you are going to be doing a lot a night time driving?

I got Xenons as I willl be doing a lot of driving in the dark when the clocks go back so I felt that the extra £500 for the Xenons was worth it.
