Hello from very sad Fabia VRS Owner

Featured Replies

Hi, I think once you have got your car sorted out properly, you will may be start to get your confidence back

I sympathise, I had a bit of a crash last week, though nowhere as serious as yours by the look of your pic. I was not at fault, was just slowing down to join a queue of stationary traffic on a sliproad and somebody just slammed into the back of me, I've only had my car for a few weeks, but I am scared now when driving especially if someone is driving too close behind me, I start getting agitated and swearing a lot!

I am worried about my car, once I know it is ready I am going to go to the accident repairers and if there is anything about the job I am not happy with, I am not going to bring it home until its sorted properly with them and the insurance company!

Yup - in reality, it looks like very little damage - probably just tipped on to its roof. All windows intact, so probably an easy repair job - may not have even needed new panels? I know its a bit of a cliche given you've inverted the car, but the rain coming in and rattles thing may not be related at all to the crash / repair. All are things which do happen on the odd fabia.

That is a good point. Fabias do sometimes leak and Jason's rattles like its been in a crash even though it hasnt (well, not this one)

Thanks for your comments but the roof was replaced so I think maybe thats why its leaking. Both front doors and wings and bonnet were also replaced and one wheel. The winscreen was shattered too. I hit a couple of posts before turning over a couple of times. So a fair bit of damage was caused although I do agree it doesnt look like much from the photo. And I have to admit I did have a rattle before the crash I just have a few more now Tee Hee !

True, but if it didn't leak before and does now, then the repair has not returned the car to it's original state.

Looks like it landed on the front pillars mind, which if they are bent was (I thought) usually a write off.

What's black ice?? You're better off getting a new car. You shoulda told your insurance you were not comfortable driving a car that's had it's shell bent all over.

What's black ice??

Kind of like normal ice, except not white. Basically on the road surface, say a frozen puddle for example. Very difficult to see as it looks like the road surface.

Hi Black ice is simply that Its very hard compacted ice, to me it just looked like the normal road surface but when I hit it at 55MPH it was a like scene out of holiday on Ice all those fancy spins and things.

UAE very nice I have just aquired a studio in RAK what a lovely place. I digress well I was so fed up with my insurance company which is why i took the car to Skoda

Does this make Missdisnee the fourth member of the I.B.M.A. ?

What is IBMA ? And I'm with HSBC or was should I say.

I was with norwitch union when i rolled my pug 306, absolutley killed it, there wasnt a straight pannel on her. The insurance company were useless.

You pay all that money for your insurance like a good law abiding person. yet when you need them to pay up and do what you pay them for they don't.

It's just take take take with insurance companies.

What is IBMA ? And I'm with HSBC or was should I say.

Oh I see. Fame, I wonder if fortune is soon to follow!

Doubt it somehow though.

Whereabouts in Yorkshire are you?

The view of you crashed rollerskate looks familiar:)

I may have crashed there also:O

  • Author

Tell me where you crashed then mine was very close to Holmfirth what happened to you?

Ah, no, I rolled my mint Renault 25 over the moors at Cockhill betwixt Hebden Bridge, and Oxenhope.:(

I have yet to crash my Fabia:)

Bad luck though, you should have never had had it back.

You need an assertive man to let you decide what you are going to do:D

  • Author

No man needed I can be quite assertive when I know what I am doing. I just perhaps need to be told what I'm doing though.

Hebden Bridge very pretty!

As per most of the above messages I'd advise getting rid ASAP, it would even be worth cutting your losses and off-loading it at auction. As regards a replacement there are some suggestions above, however one post suggests a Fiat Punto, from experience of a Punto HGT bought from Reg Vardy don't know which was more unrealible and generally inefficient the car or the dealer, at least the car wasn't a systematic liar, so probably the dealer!!

Just looked on the items for sale part of this site and found the below:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/items-sale/its-sad-sad-day-my-beloved-octy-vrs-has-go/62670/

Relates to a very smart looking Octavia VRs for £5k, far better than a poxy Punto!!

Hello there, :D

as the 2nd member of the IBMA, I know how you fell, and it's great to hear that you're driving and motivated to get your fabia sorted out.

When mine was written off, they did assess the damage and costed the repair, which was a new shell and fitting all of the interior and engine of the old damaged shell into the new one. Due to cost, they wrote it off instead, and I'm glad they did. :)

You say the roof has been replaced. This surprises me as I thought that new cars which didn't have "bolt on" roofs at the A, B and C pillars would not be repaired as they'll never be as strong as the cast block they come out as. Maybe someone can clarify ?

Either way, although Fabias have been known to leak, if yours didn't before the accident and blatently does now, then clearly something's not right. :thumbdwn:

I think I'm not alone in saying I await to hear what the insurance co offers. ;)

Keep your chin up and welcome to Briskoda

Taking on the insurance company is probably going to be the toughest option (rip off merchants), I'm not sure where you'd stand on selling it privately (the outstanding issues and possible repurcussions from the new owner). I guess auction as previously suggested or trade in if you could find a dealer to take it (they'd only auction it anyway).

If you fancy taking on the insurance co. my only advice would be call consumerdirect explain everything and they can give you free advice on how to proceed. Also letting the other party (the insurance co in this case) know you've spoken to consumer direct (remember to quote the reference number Consumer Direct give you) helps to assure them your not messing around. Expect to hear things about quoting acts of law, sending registered letters, etc. If none of that works then you'll probably be advised to take them to court.

You need to work out if all this hassle is worth it or whether to lose some cash and get shot relatively hassle free.

Hope that's of some help.

Do I qualify, even though it was a Citroen ZX that I inverted (ok full rolled (; ), and I'd not even heard of Briskoda back then?

I think you should call the finance company because, with some finance deals, they may still own all/part of the vehicle.

I havent read all the posts to this thread, so apologies it this has been said.

I agree with Goohie's comment, so the finance company still own the car. I would give them a call as its still there property. Explain what has happened and say that you will be stopping your payments until this matter is resolved.

Say that the stress of not being able to get this matter sorted and being without the use of your car is now getting you really down. Mention that you are paying for the outstanding finance on a vehicle which is in your opinion not safe and you dont feel safe driving.

Pass on your insurace details to the finance company and see if they will speak to the garage that are repairing your car and your insurance company to see if they can all come to some arrangement.

You have nothing to loose by trying this.
