Think of the shame in loosing this race!

I've got a rather large set back in the production coming up so ahh..... this actually might be a close race against my best efforts.

Not to worry, I'll just need to work as hard as you all!

:)

We're not quite up to the number 1 spot yet

Regarding electricity use - that is why I had to cut my production down a LOT. However when it is cold(ish) it can be used to heat the house, in turn reducing gas useage by a fair amount. (not gonna offset it, mind you ;))

My front bedroom - which is where my PCs are - used to be the coldest room in the house.....

not any more ;)

OK I've thrown a couple of CPUs and a bit of electricity at the team effort. Should be some results before too long.

I've stayed away from this kind of thing after several years of SETI

Quite ironic that I setup FaH one day and get a begging letter in my inbox from SETI the next day. Do you think the aliens might be watching?

A newby to folding here.

The first 2 WU i did didnt take much time at all, but ever since the first 2 its never been the same. I uninstalled F@H and reinstalled it and now the WU seems massive.

Think i must be doing something wrong, see pic.

Any help on getting it running better.

I'll be setting up my broadband/network at home over the weekend so will start my 2 computers folding then, will try and get a few of the work computers folding as well this week...

Nice to see Brisky rising to the challenge :D

What % of processor usage do you have it set to?

To be fair though, p2124 is a bigger WU, preferred days value is 74 days (scoring 396 points), whereas a WU like p993 is only 22 days (scoring 122 points).

This site might be useful to give you timescales and scoring values for each WU: Folding@Home

Hope that information helps?

Now adding my test Linux server....

And any other boxes that aren't busy........

100 %, The bar is set all the way to the right.

If people are struggling with the graphical client (as per the screenshot above) then look for my stickified guide to using the console client. It's much less intensive on the computer, yet just as user friendly. I'm no IT techie, but it was a doddle for me to setup.

Slight change to my folding rigs that may help,

I have added another P4 3GHZ to the cause which runs 24/7.

I have also upgraded one of the rigs, from a dual CPU P3 866, to a single CPU P4 3GHZ. This one although only one CPU should be able to fold 2 units faster than the old dual p3.

Folding on 3 PCs now, 2 that run for 8 hours a day at work and my laptop which is on for 6 hours a night.

Its not much, but its better than nothing at all.

;)

How do you remove FAH from the service list under windows.

Ta

I'm pretty sure it's in Jason's guide...

There are 2 ways which you can use to remove it,

1. edit the registry, and remove the entry for it

2. from the cmd prompt FAH504-Console.exe -configonly

one of the first options asks if you want to remove it as a service..

Disclaimer

I'm fairly sure this is correct but I am relying on what I can remember from a few months ago and work have been filling my head with lots of HACMP and Linux DR stuff since :D

What sort of performance were you getting from the P3s? There's a couple of these gathering dust at work. Life expired (very) though so I doubt they'd stay up long enough to do anything useful

... then there were 4 more linux CPU's churning away :)

Average I suppose,

The P4's were an inplace upgrade (new motherboard etc.) then a repair install of windows to fix the driver issues. The P3 was working on a wu prior to the upgrade, as a guide (using console client) before was 2.5 Hrs per 1%, after was 1Hr per 1%, quiet a bit faster on the p4. This was for a 600 point WU.

ill try to make sure my core2duo 2gig keeps folding :)

3 WUs completed today.... that's around 1000 points or so to be added :D

downside is it'll be a coupla days before I get any more points lol....

ah well, never mind....

I'm plodding along, but not as much of an improvement as i had hoped :(

if that's your definition of plodding (1247 points today ;) ) then keep on plodding !!

I've managed to add acouple more machines to the cause... they're slowly chugging through WU's... no big improvement to my daily average yet though :(

I guess only time will tell :)

One of my machines has been working on the same unit since the 20th nov.. and it's only done 38% :(

It's not the fastest machine in the world but damn thats slow progress...
