Anyone know what 'dieseling' means

Featured Replies

Was it cold this morning?

If so it's probably the same issue the octy I had.

Came on after a half hour drive (made you think level or overheating) - for the record the car doesn't have a temp gauge. After the car left standing all day it now comes on as soon as you start the car up. Going to dealers this morning to sort it out and check the latest on my Octy.

Unfortunately the Roomster still lives. It was just a loose connector. Must try harder to rid myself of this car!!

I really would be asking for an alternative Octavia, after all you are paying company car tax and rental on that and not a Roomster.

I think that you have been reasonable, but that after this much time they should be able to fix it or replace the car with another one.

Funny you should say that, my boss has been annoying the life out of Skoda Customer Services for the last two days stating exactly the same thing. He has given them a deadline to respond by or face adverse publicity.

Cheezemonkhai you think the same way as me.

Got a nice phone call today from Skoda UK. I have to return the Roomster tomorrow and pick up a hire car equivalent or better than my Octavia.

Seems that at least some of Skoda UK do know good customer service. :)

Glad to see you have this sorted and fingers crossed they get your car back up and singing soon.

Spoke too soon........... got to garage and they'd decided against hiring me a car as they have a spare Octy 1.9TDI with a big scrape on the rear bumper. Still its less embarrasing than the Roomster!!

Hmm, I'm not quite getting this, how does a 1.9TDI Octy (I assume II) class as better than a 2.0 TDI Octy.

The engine size thing is only a minor issue, however if you were using this car to visit new clients, then the scrape on the rear bumper would lower the clients opinion of your company no end.

Better than the roomster, but still not good. If I was your boss I would definitely be after a replacement vehicle or getting the lease company to reject the vehicle.

It isn't an option I would want to take, but this does seem to be dragging a lot. :(

Received email from manufacturer today which quotes:

We sympathise with the inconvenience caused and, therefore, we shall be offering you a gesture of goodwill when the difficulties have been resolved.

Any thoughts on said gesture? Anyone been offered anything before by them?

Its normally something like a free service - but thats of absolutely no benefit to you whatsoever!!!

Good point!!

Might be vouchers off a new Skoda - like I'd buy one now! :thumbdwn:

Was a common problem on TD units on various cars as supplied by a foreign company .When oil overfilled the engine ran on ,using oil ,and in this particular case only way of stopping engine was to stall it -but by then at least one rocker follower had gone west. (Story as told to me by breakdown bloke)

What a saga, you are being more patient than i would be!!

Best of luck getting it sorted.

I used to work at a Forklift truck dealership and we had a big diesel truck come in with engine problems the same thing happened with that but due to the trasmission type it couldnt be stalled so we just had to clear the workshop and wait for the bang.

The revs this engine pulled was amazing it just kept on revving and revving, it eventually broke a con rod , its wasnt due to the revs but the fact it consumed all of its oil , there was hardly any left in the sump

Anyone else driven 1.9TDI vs 2.0TDI ?

The 1.9 is gusty enough but the engine is a lot noisier than the 2.0 IMHO.

the 1.9 is definitely noisier than the 2.0 but then it only has 5 gears too.

If you find a tunnel though the turbo on the 1.9 makes a nicer noise while spooling up :)

Shock news on mine. Skoda dealer doesn't want to tempt fate but they think Skoda Technical have found the fault. Something to do with a faulty vacuum chamber?

Any ideas what this refers to, anybody??

They say the part(s) are in tomorrow but they will test my car over the weekend to make sure.

What, like a Kia Picanto or Proton or something?

So they'll give you a BMW M3 then? Or maybe a Honda Civic? A petrol ride-on lawnmower? A free evening pass to a Prague brothel? We must be told...

A free evening pass to a Prague brothel?

That would come in handy if you want to join us on the CZ trip :D

I will be straight on here when I receive my item of goodwill, rest assured.

Shock, horror - just come off the phone with the garage who are 90% sure they've fixed it. However they want to hand it back Tues after thorough testing over the weekend. Will post info next week on outcome; Good or Bad.

Sounds like good news. hope all goes well.

Right, here goes.

Collected car at 1700. Looks/Smells very nice - all been valeted. Can't remember car being this clean since new.

So far all ok, either the wrong engine has been fitted to mine or the 105BHP Octavia I was using is very slow in comparison. Maybe my turbo was playing up for a while so I didn't notice the gradual loss of power but my car seems rapido to say the least.

Anyway the starting problem looks to have been resolved and believe it or not it turned out to be a faulty starter motor - who'd have thought eh?? Starting problem - Faulty starter motor :- NO WAY!!

Still 7 weeks to diagnose this does seem excessive to me but was finally sorted after the factory advised my dealer to change the offending item last week.

The service manager has used the car over the weekend for nearly 400 miles and not a fault. Even he commented on how quick it was and that in his opinion if I did consider replacing the vehicle to get the same again and stay clear of the vRS (his words not mine).

For the record if anyone would consider purchasing this vehicle when the lease is up next June the list of work is as follows:-

1. Flywheel & clutch replaced under warranty at approx. 40k miles

2. Engine/turbo and intercooler replaced at approx. 54k miles following catastrophic failure of the turbocharger (mine was a Garrett by the way).

Lease company also authorised replacement cam belt.

3. Throttle control body replaced at approx. 54k.

4. Starter motor replaced at approx. 54k.

All I have to do now is wait for my 'Goodwill Gesture' from Skoda UK and all will be well again. I will keep you all informed on the progress on my cars reliability after thorough testing. :):D:thumbup:

Glad you're finally sorted. Did your lease company have to pay for the clutch when the flywheel was replaced or did Skoda pay for both?
