Audi A4, Avant or Saloon?

Featured Replies

I've finally decided that the A4 is definitely probably ( ) going to be my next car.

I'm just unsure of which body style to go for. I've been looking about and can afford an 03/53 plate model. They're both very handsome cars IMO. I'm kind of drawn towards the Avant due to the spacial requirements, but I just wondered if anyone has personal experience of either car? I know Kenny has the saloon. How about you lot that work in VAG dealers?

I would need to stash a foldable wheelchair plus a weeks shopping in the back of the car. What are the dynamic differences between the two? And would I loose vast amounts of performance with the Avant?

Are you related to Tom?

Are you related to Tom?

Yes, Pixi, we are very happily married and live together in a mock tudor garden shed on the Isle of Sheppey.:)

Are you related to Tom?

Does that mean he's going to ask for lots of pictures of A4's?

Avant all the way :D

Chris

Definately the Avant, alot easier for the gear you need to carry IMHO alot better looking too.

I'm with the others Avant looks so much better.

Theres something about estate cars that make them so look much better than their saloon/hatch variants... with notable excption to the fabia estate.... that just went wrong!

I'm pretty much swayed by the Avant in the looks department as well, but can I get the same performance and chuckability out of one?

Forgot to add.....the Avant for sure, unless it's an RS4 ;)

Avants are cooler. End of. :)

Avant :)

What about an A3 sportsback thingy?

I'm sure the last time I sat in one, it seemed bigger inside than the A4!

For some reason I can't get on with the looks of the A4, A3 =

Those pics were of S4s not A4s

Yes they were weren't they....:D

good old pinko, i very nearly let out a small but powerful amount of sex wee at your reply eariler regarding your homosexual courtship with thomas and his randy bottom :thumbup:

i'd say avant for two reasons(i think)

1) looks better

2)the saloon has a little biddy opening(i think) and would be a right royal PITA for a wheel chair.

on a side not if the octavia is anything to go the estate actually handle a bit better and have better rear visibilty and the performance differnece is only noticable by the stig when he has consumed at least 24 cans of red bull and put them round the track on alternate laps for 2 hours.

avant, you know it makes sense :)

That's it then, case closed!

Thanks Benjwaldo!

:iagree:

So Why not an Octavia 2

Boot is much bigger

But if you must have the Audi badge Avant is better.

happy to help :)

i'm awaiting the letter from top gear accepting my offer of car reviewer extrodinare.

and may i ask what is wrong with the saloon? :D:rofl:

what model is it your going for mate?

being serious for a minute i would go for the Avant in your case. the A4 boot os actually pretty big but being a saloon the opening is fairly narrow so if your loading and unloading alot i would go for the avant.

there is a tradeoff in performance and handling but there is very little in it and doubt you would even notice tbh

ive had the same dilema but think im going to opt for the S4 saloon apposed to the avant.

if i can help, let me know fella

I've just been looking at A3 Sportback, A4 Avant and an A6.

A3 is much easier to get into and out of...the rear door opening are bigger and there's a lot more rear space.

A4 Avant has more space in the boot but A3 Sportback still has a reasonable amount...I also felt that the A3 had the better dash....looked far classier...IMHO.

In the end I got the A6...SWMBO ruled that the A3 wan't big enough....A4 was never in the running.

For me A4 really was too much of a compromise....I like the exterior stlying but the A3 Sportback was a much better all round package...IMHO.

Thanks for the replies Kenny and Adrian, The A3 does look very nice, I concede, however, the A4 ticks more boxes for me. Bootspace being a very important factor. I think you both just answered my question, cheers.

As for model, watch this space.....

S4 :)

if not the version like mine in avant is nice too

I'll let you know in April, but needless to say, I'm saving all the pennies I can, and that's just for the insurance! It's quite hard to find a non poverty spec A4....
