The speakers are commendable. The 3D sound effect is quite good if you ever feel the need to hold your phone directly in front of your face and experience sounds floating around the back of your heed as if by magic.

you lucky bugger, that's more than I got from T mobile. I'm currently scouring Ebay for a 2gig Micro SD card.

@johnjohnhealey, I would definitely take the phone back to the operator's shop. They should have a repair centre or be able to send your phone off for repair if you complain enough.

Look HERE for the pc app to download maps to your device... theres also a updated version of the "search" software thats worth installing :)

EDIT to add.. looks like i might splurge on a 2gb too... at the moment all the maps on the nokia 1gig are taking up 800mb, which does not leave enough space for tomtom..

EDIT2 - ignore me... i forgot i had 500mb of videos on the card trying to get the divx player to work :P

Oh the podcasting application is nice too :) geeky.. i can see myself subscribing to a load of video podcasts, downloading over wifi, and then watching over the course of the day

BTW, the rate of return on this product is increasing daily. There have been lots of issues with poor gps perfromance, big isses with the WLan and the settings as well as the usual general freezing and fnctionality issues :(

Makes you wonder if they ever bothered to test the product before they released it!

I have to say im getting on well with mine... the internal gps is a bit slow, but that said MAPS does support a external GPS, which i already have for tomtom in the car.

WIFI has been flawless.. intergrating niceley with the podcast stuff.

If i HAVE to be nit-picky...

Battery life isnt great (not really an issue for me)

you can answer a call by opening the slider, but not end one+ it doesnt lock after a call

the Albums app has gone and added all the tomtom pictures too..

the light sensor seems a bit over-active about adjusting the backlights

and im still a n00b with it ;)

I have my N95 and I have to say I am very impressed with it.

But here's an odd one: I got home today and fiddled with the WLAN settings as you do and about half an hour later SWMBO fired up the Wii. Lo and behold both controllers had unregistered from thier parent unit and refused to re-register, I knocked the WLAN off the phone and they worked fine.

Coincedence? or is my shiny new N95 playing havoc? The Wii has been totally faultless until today

Other than that the GPS and camera are fantastic and it makes my N80 look like a right donkey :D

I'm thinking of installing tomtom 6 on my mem card (when it arrives). Is it worth it? or is the Nokia app just as good?

Tomtom is the better app, but at the moment you will have to use an external bluetooth GPS reciever.. AND, another little annoyance is half the tomtom images show up in the gallery on the phone.. you need a decent file manager to track each image down and set it to hidden/system to make it dissapear

Just a heads up to say there is a firmware update "around" for the N95..

Ive got it on mine, altho i had to hack the product id on the phone to make software update think it was unbranded..

First impressions are the whole phone is MUCH faster.. pressing a button gives a instant responce

So check the nokia site in a week or so (if your going to do it the normal way)

I've had my N95 for a couple of weeks and apart from a couple of reboots when using the smart2go GPS navigation application it's worked without any problems. I agree that the GPS receiver is a bit slow and inaccurate (~90m) but that's because it uses an older chipset (SiRF mark II, I believe) so I just pair it with my bluetooth GPS receiver which does a much better job (~8m accuracy)

I find it's really quick (much quicker than previous Symbian Series 60 devices) when running through menus and general operation. Sure the camera is a little slow there isn't a phone out there that has a camera as good or as quick as a dedicated compact camera.

Neo_VR > You can set the phone to lock its keypad either automatically when you close the slide, ask you each time or put it on a time delay (Settings>General>Security>Phone & SIM).

Which version of firmware do you guys have on your phone? Mine is,

v10.0.018

15-03-07

RM-159

Nokia N95 (41.01)

I've used and tested Nokia's for years so if you have any questions about it or other handsets then just ask.

My firmware as of yesterdays "hack" is now

V11.0.026 ;)

Be careful guys.

Changing the product ID will invalidate your warranty with your network and Nokia.

A good site for fellow N95 users - Nokia N95 Users Forums

I'm loving my N95.

Hacks aside it's a great phone. It's a quantum leap over my old N80

Thanks for the reminder but I think I can live with that since I was given the phone to test and 'fiddle' with.

Another warning is that if you do change the product code, be careful when you try to restore a backup. I did a full restore but it cocked up the menus and didn't give me any key shortcuts (even for the main buttons). To avoid this, don't restore the settings. It's a bit of a pain to go through everything and set it to what you want again (especially profiles and message configuration) but worthwhile.

Thankfully I've got it back to normal including my e-mail and application installations.

I managed to upgrade my firmware with Col G's help, thanks. But the wireless still doesn't work on my home network. It loads a couple of pages then everything freezes, and I can't turn the wireless connection off or use the phone. I have to switch it off an reboot before it works properly again.

I thought I would have to get a replacement until today. I happened to be in a pub with free WiFi access. i thought I'd give it a go and the connection worked seamlessly. I started off browsing mobile only sites to see if the phones memory could handle it, then moved onto full internet sites including another well known Skoda and sports forum and it worked fine. lightening fast and no freezing or hanging. i was able to switch the connection off straight away and in all, the phone was like a PDA in how fast it worked.

So that leaves me with a home network that doesn't work with my phone.......

What kind of encryption are you using on your home network?.. might be worth re-setting the wireless up on the router side.. see if that makes a difference??

im using WPS with TKIP here

I've just checked and it's WPA 2 - Personal and TKIP, I can't find anything on the Nokia site to say what the phone is most compatible with.

The router is a Belkin wireless G + MIMO on a cable connection.

I may well try and re-install the router on a WPA + TKIP security setting.

Also make sure your router has the latest firmware... :)

theoretically it should work with WPA2, but wpa2 hasnt really been around that long.. and ive had issues getting PCs and laptops (especially with intel chipsets) to connect to wpa2 properly... vanilla WPA is more than secure enough these days.. :)

anyone know when they will be on the 'three' network?

A mate of mine has got one of these phones. I was playing with it yesterday and no matter what I did I couldn't get it to connect to my wireless network at home. I even removed all security settings on my wireless connections and it still wouldn't connect.

Has kinda put me off buying one.

I contacted Three, they told me they will not be carrying the N95:mad:

I started a new contract with O2 who gave me an unbranded unlocked N95 which works perfectly with my Three sim card:thumbup: I now have the O2 sim in a spare phone and use that for out going calls when im indoors.

Netgear seem to have an issue with Nokia handsets. I assume yours is a Netgear?

Ive just got a BT homehub to replace my ageing 3com router and ive found that the n95 doesnt like any wireless channel above 11.. its also a bit picky about WPA2/WPA in combined mode.. it works in either on their own but not when the router trys to support both.

Thanks for the reply, but no, I use Linksys routers (WRT54G). It doesn't matter too much, I've still got a few months left on my contract anyway but I like to start looking around early, not many phones going that I want to buy at the moment.
