Nokia N95

Featured Replies

Thanks for the reply, but no, I use Linksys routers (WRT54G). It doesn't matter too much, I've still got a few months left on my contract anyway but I like to start looking around early, not many phones going that I want to buy at the moment.

I have the same Linksys router and have set it up to use WPA2 for my home network. I have no problems using my N95 with it so don't be that hesitant just because of one poor experience.

I work for a mobile phone company and so Far the N95 is selling very well not had anything really go wrong with them either, the one we keep getting back just now is the Samsung u600. But with regards to the N95 as soon as we get a delivery they are right back out again, i had a shot of one for a few days and i realy liked it. hope you enjoy it, with regards to T-mobile wouldnt touch them with a big stick, sorry had a really bad experience with them.

:rubchin: Hmmm, I'll have to have another play over the weekend, if I can borrow my mates phone again.

  • 4 weeks later...

Heads up that V12 firmware is now available on NSU... at the moment its just for "unbranded" handsets... see earlier in the thread for how to make yours that way :) im just sticking it on now.

Apparently the biggest change everyone is talking about is the assisted GPS, meaning the phone uses a wee bit of data to find where the sattelites are and can allegedly get gps lock in about 20 seconds now..

Ill let you know when ive had a play

Mines currently on 11.0.026

Checked last night and that was still the latest version available?

It depends on your product code... when the 11 firmware was released i couldnt update coz O2 hadnt released their "custom" firmware onto NSU... i changed my productcode to the generic unbranded "euro1" code, where the firmware doesnt get messed with by the networks.. im now running v12.0.013 with a date of 19-06-07

it could be 2-3 weeks before the branded firmwares appear

Loaded version 12 onto my handset this morning, so far so good.

ive just been offered a contract renewal deal on the n95

Anyone know how to change the product code so I can update my firmware?

I downloaded NSS but no matter what I do it wont detect my phone, i'm using a laptop with Vista but nss never does the 'found new hardware' thing to allow me to install the drivers. (i'm using the virtual usb mode).

Anyone got any ideas or other ways of doing it?

errr i had same problem.. ended up doing it on a XP box. i belive someone has managed to do it in vista by puttin the program into xp compatibility mode

Has anyone managed to get the internet phone working properly. I have set everything up after registering an account on sipgate.co.uk - free phone service over your broadband link - voice over ip provider. and followed their instructions but cant get incoming calls to work properly.

Sipgate will allocate you a normal 01xxx number and route it through voip, and it works if my phone is disconnected from their service, eg. I can leave and retrieve the free voicemail. But as soon as I connect my phone, the number goes to discontinued.

? never knew there was one! how do i do that then?

Manny.. i reccomend Truphone... tiz free, and currently the only "proper" N95 compatible and intergrated solution... only problem is undoubtedly the battery dissapears rapidly if its connected to WiFi all day.. but it does do forwarding to your normal mobile number if its not connected..

Hi Guys, dont know if it will be much help, as i have said already i work for a mobile phone company and the only network that the software from the N95 really works on is T-Mobile. O2 is not to bad but still isnt tas good. Orange and vodafone just forget it they have had not end of issues with this, if i can help with anything else give me a shout

cheers

Another thing ive just "found" in the application download section on the N95.. theres now a free Exchange-email client to enable OTA syncronisation with Exchange servers.. ala windows mobile devices.

ive not had chance to install it yet.. could be useful! :)

Web linky also appears in the "download" bit in the tools folder.. you may need to refresh the catalog to see it

Can anyone point me in the direction of any good "cheap software" i picked up one of these N95 things today

1st impression looks good camera is awesome thats about all i've done so far

Managed to update my firmware to 12.0.013

Wow, what a difference, the main one being the GPS performance, it's still pretty scatty when using the sat nav but it locates you so much quicker now with the assisted gps.

Also having changed the product code to Euro1 I've got rid of the T-Mobile ness of the phone, particularly the web'n'walk stuff instead of just the web logo (i'm on 3 anyway).

I like the ability to switch between silent and general profile by holding the # key, and the camera starts up quicker too.

I also like the way the side buttons light up in order and flash for various different reasons, some thing that must have been disabled by T-Mobile.

Otherwise, everything just seems to work faster, no lag when pressing buttons and stuff, plus all the extra features that nokia intended! I'm not sure if i'm imagining it at the moment, but I'm sure i'm getting better signal strength and battery life despite me playing with it more than usual?

It's transformed an already awesome phone in to a must have IMO. if only it were slightly smaller!

The firmware will keep getting better and better... theyre almost done working out all the bugs with teh N73... thats had about a dozen firmware updates!

Im still learning bits and bobs.. like storing themes on the memory card is not a good idea

What kind of software you after fatty?

Mine is still fine on V12, but boy does it get hot when using the WIFI connection.

Not sure really just some fancy trick stuff, any suggestions welcome, i'm easy surprise me.:)

I just been playing with the sat nav looks good

does it require a net connection at all times ???

mines running v10.0.0.18 btw is this good/bad

Thats teh original firmware... theres been two updates since then.. Install nokia PC suite and nokia software update on your pc and get the firmware upgraded... v11 is MUCH smoother than v10, v12 better still!.. dont forget to backup your phone first..

Have a look around on N95users.com and gsmforums for applications..

Ive got a couple of games, tomtom, taskman, and MSN messenger on mine :)

Nice one Col

I ve had a little look on there as i can't seem to update the phone

It appear that orange aint verified the updates yet so i can't have them
