Featured Replies

Hi,

I was just after some advice on the best product to clean up the exhaust on the Fabia vRS? obviously over time they start to look a little black, I want to get it all nice and new looking if possible.

I use Meguiers metal polish and it brings it up a treat. :)

Barry Scott recommends Cillit-Bang! Bang, and the dirt is gone

Chris

Mr Jeeves miracle polish works for me:thumbup:

It also cleans your bumpers, windows, paintwork etc.

And it's cheap as chips.

( God knows what's in it though:confused: )

It might sound daft, but it is really really good, and very easy to use.

I use Solvol metal polish for most of the exhasust. For the bottom bit where the gunge accumulates, I use a special eraser which is designed for cleaning printed circuit boards (it contains metal particles. HX04E from Maplin). This cleans the metalwork without damaging it.

Autosol, and when/if it corrodes, a Dremel :)

I use oven cleaner.

Spray on, leave for 15 mins and then hose off.

Just make sure you rinse well!

once clean, i little spray with wd40 and a wipe is all it needs once a week.

I use the same stuff that I clean my wheels with. Muck Off, its ment for bikes but I heard its not far off oven cleaner.

I also just use turtle wax wheel clean... Works fine, and shifts all marks with ease...

i use megiuars wheel cleaner.

I leave mine black and sooty like any self-respecting diesel exhaust should be.

people clean their exhaust

I thought they came black from the factory.

I use Duraglit Brass cleaner for the inner part and S Steel cleaner for the outer

You clean the INSIDE of the exhaust?

With his tongue:rofl:

you can't beat a bit of brasso

With all this cleaning, do any of you have time to drive your cars?!?!

Chris

i once stupidly pressure washed the exhaust causing it to fill slightly with water

then made the mistake of starting it up in front on the house..

the result....... black cruddy water all over the brickwork.

snap(ish)! mine gets done with Hob Brite - shines it up a treat :D

By inside I mean the flat oval S Steel plate where the twin exhausts exit NOT right inside the pipes :orb_lol:

I must admit that your car is a credit to your anally retentive passion for not talking to your wife:rofl:

With all this passion (which I totally support! :D ) regarding the cleanliness of the 'shiney rear orifice', I was also wondering how easy it is to remove come the inevitable time for exhaust renewal? Had a 'finisher' on my last car but that just corroded on and couldn't be salvaged when that section was changed. How does the vRS fare? I can't see a securing screw or nut anywhere - just seems to be all flush. How is it actually secured?

Watch it. The truth is out there;)

I used Autosol in the days of my beloved Octy vRS
