17" alloys on a Fabia?

Featured Replies

Does anybody know or can find out  , if you can put 17"/18" alloys on a skoda fabia and also if yes could the car be lowered, say 30mm as well?

A Fabia is one of the cars I am considering buying but I find the alloys look too small on it, so any help answering the above would be appriciated. Thanks.

I think 17" would look really good, but i doubt 18" would fit!

Even so. i think the 17" would have a negative effect on performance.

AMD and ABT sportline do lowering springs.

I have thought about this as well. What does TUV approval mean?

Pete

TuV is the German equivilent of the Government Dept of Transport , all acessories used on German roadcars must be TuV approved , and they are much stricter regs than used over here , so if its a TuV approved part , its generally good quality.

17's do fit m8. I got a Fabia on 17" Wolfrace Voodoo's. They suit the squarish style well I feel. Looking almost like Audi style wheels. It's running on 205/40ZR17 tyres.

After fitting, they do seem v. close to the inner arch liner, so feel that 18's may be a bit too big.

Hope this helps! :D

Have you got a side picture of your car (Fab16v), I wouldn't mind seeing it to see if it's worth going that route with mine!

Do you suffer much with ride and handling?

19" on a fabia is the only way to go!

REEESTECPA!!

Here are some shots of my Fab on 17's.

The front grille is now different as it now has a mesh instead of slats. Took me a while to make as I didn't know how to strip it down.

The exhaust is now also different and very loud! The de-cat does a make a slight difference.

Gettin it rollin road tested on saturday. Will keep u posted! I had 86bhp at the wheels before the filter and exhaust went on. Hoping for about 95 now. Not bad for a 1.4!

I must admit, those wheels look cool.:D They suit the fabia wheel arch far better than I had imagined, now if only skoda would put 17's on the vRS Fabia

That is certainly an exhaust and a half..

I'd like to know more about the ride quality.

I'm thinking of 16" wheels (maybe those wheels from a vRS combi) and some H&R OE sport springs...

I was running on 16's before I got the 17's. I actually found the ride quality to be better on 17's. The 16's used to crash over bumps more. The biggest drawback is that it does tend to tramline quite a bit now.

At the other end of the scale the 165/70R13s on my Felicia seem to dive into every pothole they can find. Oh for bigger wheels on that car.....

Time to download the latest patch for the dog........dog.gif

Fabia 16V

Nice pics , you were right about those wheels , they do look very 'Audi' , and suit your car very well! I wonder why the Fabia isnt modded more , its a great car to start with , and looks great when lowered/wheeled!

I have had a body kit fitted to my car (skoda original one) and chromed everything up, but I still have standar 14" alloys. I would really like soem like yours, but am not sure what effect it has on the car, my dealer was reluctant to even suggest something saying it affects gear ratios ????

hey fab16v,

very cool indeed, i see what you mean about the audi look. suit the car very well IMO.

regards,

The gear ratios bit is a bit of a mystery. But I reckon that he meant that changing your tyres / wheel combos if not checked could alter your real and indicated speed...but I maybe wrong. the web links have links (odd that) to wheel and tyre convertor guides. :1:

I seem to remember that as long as your new wheel & tyre combination was within 5% of the overall size of the originals then gearing shouldnt be an issue.

I havent got 17s, but I have 16s recently fitted.

You shouldn't have any gearing problems as long as the tyre size is correct. Its the aspect ratio of the side wall thats important.

I went from 185/60/14 to 195/45/16. A difference in rolling radii of only 2mm.

This site was pointed out to me

The wheel and tyre bible

Hope this helps

The only thing with the gearing is that it seems to be slightly slower accelerating with the 17"s on. 16" are probably the best balance between looks and performance.

See you went for the 16" route yourself in the end FabTDi. What wheel/tyre combo did you get in the end?

Went for the BBS RXs in the end with Toyo Proxes T1s 195/45/R16 V rated... Looks great, but no pics yet. Grip is great! :)

Sounds like a great choice to me. Can't wait to see them. The Toyo's are very grippy tyres. Had them on the 16's, but the 17's came with Falkens, which are good too, but prefered the Toyo's. Probably go back to them once these are worn out. :D

I've just stuck some "Evolo" 17" alloys on my TDi Fabia, and they rock. They're 7.5J wide, and I don't reckon any wider would work, and 18" alloys would be too big (would affect speedo, etc) The only tyres you can stick onto 17" alloys are 205/40 which are bloody low profile, but make the car corner like its on rails. BE WARNED. fatter tyres is causing my mpg to drop off. Only get around 370/380 miles a tank, whereas i could easily get over 400 per tank. Evolo wheels come from VW by the way, but are VAG universal. I got Skoda chrome effect inserts, which look lovely. Shame I ain't got a pic of the car now, but take me word for it, 17" alloys are the BEST:D

Sound fantastic!

Where did you get them from and what was the financial damage, sound just what i'm looking for!

:drive1:

The alloys came from ebay - a rather dodgy deal out the back of a garage in London - I paid
