best tyres for fab VRS

Featured Replies

hi all, need 2 front tyres for my fab on its standard wheels, what are the best 4 or 5 sets to get? and would i be best getting the whole lot re-tyred?

cheers in advance

Search. Loads of threads on tyre choice.

 Toyo proxes t1-r, had them fitted on the front of my furby 1500 miles ago, am delighted with them, super grip wet or dry

Depends what you mean by 'best'? There is no such thing as a best tyre, because it depends entirely on what you are looking for in a tyre (ie. longlevity, grip, noise, economy, etc...).

As has already been said, you need to try out the forum search function. This question has been asked many many times!

i agree there is no such thing as a general "best tyre" as everyone is different, but for me the best tyres have to be toyo t1-r. altough i do like eagle f1's in the wet.

I would recommend Yoko Parada Spec 2

:iagree: i just orderd some for my vrs

so what's "wrong" with the tyres that come with it (or why are others better?)

There are better tyres around than the 'standard' Bridgestones mine came with. They were noisy and no grip in the wet. I have Toyo Proxes on now, excellent grip in wet and dry  ....and cheaper!!

another vote for the Toyos from me , not only do they have excellent grip but they seem to be a lot quieter than the previously fitted Dunlops/Michelins

I've always liked the Goodyear Eagle F1s - very grippy in wet or dry.

Can't comment on any others as I've always been very satisfied with the above. However that said, I've had two of these tyres end up with bulges out the sidewalls and another one disintegrate on the motorway 20 miles after fitting - still rate them highly though, the above may just be because I'm jinxed when it comes to tyres

Do a search on this and you'll find tons of threads and a few polls on favourite tyres

i've seen a few Goodyears at work with small buges in the sidewalls , it just seems to be something to do with the way they manufacture the tyres

Hello,

I find the Bridgestones are a good all rounder for grip both wet/dry, good wear, and not bad price too.

I use Eagle F1's and really recommend them. Not cheap, but very good tyres. I still use the Continental Sport 2's (or whatever they're called - car came with them!) on the standard vRS alloys for track day use, I find them to be pretty good once warmed up, although in the wet they're useless - more spin than a politician!

Hmmm...so its not just me then!!

I had another one go flat after lightly rubbing it against a kerb....so put that down to being my own fault, wouldn't be suprised if it also had a bulge and went flat from that!

thats about

I've always been a big fan of Yokos for their unbeatable dry weather grip, but I got sick of replacing the fronts so thought i'd try something a bit harder.

I'm now running Yoko parada spec 2 on the rear, Kumho ku31's up front, they're better than the yoko's in the wet and wear rate is very good considering dry grip.....cheap as well.

depends on the driver and how you drive but any of the ones mentioned.the prox,s have a nice pattern on the walls for cornering.

i need to change tyres now anyway after 6000 miles  and i have had yoko's before iand they were great toyos are good but i prefer the yoko's

My vRS was fitted with Toyos when I bought it 16k ago last August & theres still a fair bit of tread left.

I was thinking of putting Michelins on,but I've never read a complementary word about them.

So working on the basis "if it ain't broke, don't fix it",I'll probably get some more Toyos.Where's a good place to get them in the Notts/Leics area?

Try Selectatyre in Loughborough or Jeff Fowkes in Ibstock.

I had Toyos fitting to mine a month or so ago.

I've 2 Toyo Proxes TR-1's up front (from the factory fit bridgestone Turanzas).

They are a great tyre; wet & dry there is tones of grip.

Cheers, D

I'm running Dunlop Sports 7000 which need replacing sooner rather then later, aparantly they stopped making them so am after two new tyres and another two in a couple of months.

Looking at blackcircles.com:

Kumho Ecsta Sport KU 31 205/45 R16 W

I'm running Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's all round and am astonished at the grip in the wet. There appears to be only a slight degradation in grip compared to the dry. Would definitely recommend them, in saying that I've never tried the Toyos.
