For anyone doing the belt and pump

Featured Replies

Had my belt done yesterday got the metal pump from gsf

This was on a 55k car which is a 53 plate

One piece broke off in my mates hand the other bit is gone in the engine somewhere 15098.attach

This is why you need a metal pump

HTH

Although not in the league of vehicle recall, you'd think that VAG would have moved over to metal impeller design for genuine parts rather than continue with the plastic one. They could even justify a big price premium for the unsuspecting punter.

Careful if the rest of that is in the engine. They have a nasty habit of getting around to the thermostat and jamming it up.

How many miles /age on that pump Wayne?

62K, car's an 02.

It just fell apart when it was removed !!!!!! :hbomb:

Similar to my 02 4X4 at 18,738 miles and 4⅓ years.

Looks like it's age that counts, not mileage then. :(

mad isn't it?

I'm getting worried now. My car's three years old and 57,000km

Should I look at getting it changed soon?

Getting on for winter down there now ain't it.

Have a re-think when summer's on it's way.

Remember I didn't say this!

getting mine donw in a few weeks. Where is the best place to buy the metal impeller version? rumor has it that skoda have done a design change (changed the spec of the plastic) for a new version. Not sure i'd trust it though....the original should have been life tested. its terrible (and worrying)

Skoda want 35 squids for the "improved" version.

I got my "improved" version from GSF, 21 squids.

Skodas - yes , GSF etc, no - metal.

I had my Belt n pump done on the vRS yesterday. After all the paranoia the pump looks absolutely fine. Not sure what I should be looking for on the belt kit for wear tho?

( Oh I , cost

GSF used to do the metal ones, the new batch are plastic.

I work at gsf and have only seen the plastic ones!! But will look tommorrow to find out as I need one!! 65.000 miles no cambelt change yet - im scared!!

Will post gsf reference number here if I find a metal one.;)

i got my water pump from GSF back in october, and it had a brass impeller. i didnt even ask for metal specifically, it just was!

local skoda garage did it all for

Ive had my cambelt and waterpump done today and was advised NOT to fit a metal impellar water pump as the bearings have a tendancy to go ond seize the pump, snapping the cambelt. At least if the plastic one goes all that will happen is that the engine will overheat, but at least you get some warning. I was shown the origional plastic impellared pump which had done at least 70 k and it was perfect, so they do last if you get the OE.The car actually feels much smoother now and quieter ( it may be because i had a new cat pipe fitted at the same time) but many thanks to RK Engineering in St Agnes for doing such a tidy job.
